    Default Skype.. free video calls...

Just found out about Skype.com They have a free video calling website.
I downloaded it and connected up with HoekemanX over in the Netherlands.
Worked just fine. I have a webcam etc and it was easy to get everything going. If anyone wants to talk with me on that system my "name" is "randydance062449". The Skype service is free. They also have conference calling, up to a max of 5 at a time I think but have not used that feature yet.

Theo, next time set the chat with Randy in 09.00 GMT, and see how he likes it!

I am guessing he would not mind and just have some extra coffee! :-)

CST difference from the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) is -6 hrs. prty late

GMT is World Time and the basis of every world time zone which sets the time of day and is at the centre of the time zone map. GMT sets current time or official time around the globe. Most time changes are measured by GMT. Although GMT has been replaced by atomic time (UTC) it is still widely regarded as the correct time for every international time zone.

Randy, I've never used Skype with video. My use has been mainly in business to carry out conferences internationally.

Although this is certainly so, I carry on international telephone calls all the time and nobody thinks in terms of GMT. We simply say "my time" or "your time" or "Tokyo time" etc.

Although GMT is pretty much of an absolute standard, using it just involves another step, converting to GMT. I'll just look up the other person's time on one of the available online sources and not worry about it. It takes into consideration such things as adjustments for day light savings etc., which would just complicate things.
