Right now the latest reports say there is very little water or food. Relief may be days away and some people may die of thirst and maybe hunger if help doesn't arrive soon. The news report I heard said that an aircraft carrier and a detachment of marines is on the way but days away. There are two USA groups expert in digging people out of this kind of wreckage leaving today for Port Au Prince. Other countries are also sending relief but if I understand the situation correctly shelter will be a problem for all even when the first responders arrive.

What a curious direction this thread took. Excellent.

A tragedy indeed.
