Politics is like golf and buggery, not a suitable pastime for a gentleman.

The idea behind this forum is to have a place for guys to discuss non shaving related topics and kind of let it all hang out as long as its done respectfully.

Most sites on the net have a similar type of forum.

Personally, I have learned a lot about people's differing opinions on politics and other topics here. If I wanted to reaffirm my own position I'd go to a Free Thinkers board and I sometimes do. My exposure to alternate views has not always been comfortable, but it has frequently been enlightening.

    What's wrong with it?

The Conversation is here for non-shaving related discussion. Such as politics.

Everyone here seems to have been taught manners growing up, and I've never seen such a discussion turn ugly, even when people disagree.

I have seen bits and pieces of it flow into other shaving-related forums, but usually the focus is taken back to shaving, and again, no one gets inflammatory, so I don't see why it's a problem.

I don't really know how you think politics has been all over the shaving threads. I haven't seen that at all, apart from my "first shave" threat which briefly diverted into discussion about funny looks one gets at the post for shipping razors, and how silly the fear of tools is. But I reckon everyone here can relate to that, and in a way, the legality and difficulties of owning something like a straight razor in modern society IS related to straight shaving.

If you don't like politics in The Conversation, don't read the threads. Most posts are clearly labeled so that you may pick and choose what you'd like to read.

Sirshavesalot - That depends entirely on the maturity of the people involved in the discussion. There are people here with whom I disagree vehemently about politics. But I still like them and they're still nice to me, so I'm nice to them. It's a non-issue.

I think its great that we are all able to shoot the breeze with people who live all over the world, for nothing more than the cost of the dial up!

We all came here for a common interest and that is still what this forum is about, but some of us (definately me here!) spend a fair amount of time here and so we start to get into discussions with people over and above shaving, be they politics or pizza!

I see no problem discussing a topic, as long as the discussion is kept polite and gentlemanly. That said, topics like politics are obviously going to flame peoples passions more than pizza! But as others have said, its very illuminating to hear another persons point of view.

I like Seraphims analogy of an olde worlde barber shoppe, where a group of people meet and talk about whatever.

What does politics have to do with shaving? Nothing.

If you don't want to involve you self in a political discussion, don't. If you want to have a conversation about some thing else, start one! go for it! You can be sure if it's a good anicdote, a musing or a question - someone will show and interest.
