Default Has Anyone Here Toured Europe?

I'm pretty sure I'm quitting my job this summer and taking a 90 tourist visa to Europe. I've only been to London once and that was for work. I have always wanted to see Europe and I have a few destinations that I will see, but has anyone here done extensive traveling there? Any Europeans here that could give me some pointers? I'm thinking of buying a Train Pass, staying in some Hostels, as well as Hotels. Sound good?

Did the youth hostel thing, with a back pack, and Eurail pass, when I was in my late teens. It was fun then, wouldn't do it now, with exception of the Eurail pass. That was a great convenience and worth the price.

I think I have seen most of Europe (except some Skandinavian countries and Albania). Just did a quick check of Europe Travel - European Vacation Travel Guide and it looks really useful.

I've traveled some in Europe with my car and my motorcycle. Never with train. Now if you are planning to come here, you should maybe decide which parts of Europe you are willing to see. There is so much to see and experience here. I can't name which would be absolutely must. Depends what you want from your visit.

I've been to pretty much every European country ( including Albania ) and the train is usually the best way to travel. I've never stayed in a hostel so I have no idea about those, but with the advent of Tripadvisor etc. it shouldn't be hard to find decent places to stay wherever you end up.

I've done some fairly extensive european travel as well. I did 3 weeks in the summer this year, and have done many many sumers before that, and skiing.

If I were you, I would go to the sort of more touristy places for a month or two, but eastern europe is really worth a go IMO. Really enjoyed the Czech Republic.

Excellent Idea. I've been to a great number of European countries, and liked them all...Big plus on the Eastern Europe trip--Poland, Estonia, Latvia. Great places.

If I were you, I'd skip the BIG names (Paris, London, Munich) for less common destinations...Edinburgh, Cologne, Dublin, Krakow, Prague...or the REALLY obscure places. Catania, Sicily...Gdansk, Poland...Juan Les Pins, France.

Tons of fantastic places to go.

One hint is that good inexpensive food can be found
within walking distance of the train station in almost
any town and city. Local beer and wine are a winner...

Indeed...I've been to Italy three times and managed to hit a train strike EACH TIME.
