Thanked: 10When flash was really delegated to animated buttons and games it wasn't a big deal when a browser didn't support it.
In this modern day flash is used for all kinds of web applications from productivity and communication to various utilities, and of course games. It ties your hands to have to have an "app" for everything that you want to do. Why not just have an "app" like Flash, that does everything without having to install all of those special interest "apps."
I understand why they didn't want to support flash and java on the Iphone, but it really limits the usefulness of this tablet. I would rather get a web tablet like the crunchpad if it ever materializes.
The Ipad is a huge let down. I was looking forward to it, and hoping to get one. A while back when Apple said they were working on their version of a netbook and that they were targeting the sub $600 price point I was interested. It's amazing how fast I can lose interest.

I think its great, at face value. Not being able to multi task on it is horrendous. When I first saw the demos, I thought that it would be great for school. I could basically keep a 1lb notebook on me at all times. Then I started doing research. Yeah..no email and texting at the same time. Listening to Pandora? Well thats all you get to do until you exit out of Pandora. And to limit them to 8gb and 16gb is ridiculous. Another distractor besides the flash is that there are limited ports. There isnt even a USB port.
All in all it is a big disappointment. More Ohhs and Ahhs from the UI than from the substance.

I was hoping for a smaller, tablet version of a Mac. Instead they delivered a big iPod. I probably would have bought one if it had Mac OS on it, but with the only possible things you can install being applications, I'm just not remotely interested. My iPod Touch can handle that AND fit in my pocket. Also, Windows 7 supports multitouch, meaning they will probably release a tablet just like the iPad with Windows 7 on it and multitouch use. I will probably buy that.
EDIT: Also, no flash support... did Steve Jobs not realize how stupid that idea was when he did that with the Touch/iPhone?

Thanked: 267I have been wanting a "Tablet" with a touch screen for a long time. I want something to use while sitting on the couch and the wife watches TV. I have not really been into watching television for quite a while. I read a lot of newspapers and of course this forum and would like to be in the same room as my wife. Laptops really don't cut it because of heat generated and short battery life. Well it looks like they did not make a sale this time. It would have been a good sale too, because I am a dedicated PC user! Oh well!
Later,
Richard

Ah yes, the new digital Kotex.
Talk about a brilliant idea for a name.
They're braindead. This is not the time to start making proprietary cpu's again.
But honestly: running only 1 application at a time? having to close your ebook reader because you want to send an email? This paradigm was already obsolete in 1998.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Thanked: 43I've owned one PC which I kept for about 6 months and bought a PowerBook 5300 that oddly was their worst machine of the decade but way better than that blasted HP. So I really, really like Macs and Apple's products.
I don't get what market segment they are trying to create here. I think it'll sell well at first because the must have Apple crowd will want one. But will wind up like the AppleTV in that it just doesn't move much.
Jobs and company may have jumped the shark with this one.
However, the apps programmers might save it by coming up with uses for the device that transcend the dumbed down hardware.

Thanked: 234I multitasking would be an issue for me as well. I didn't like that about the ipod and I don't like it about the ipad.
I've been multitasking on phones for about 6 years, ever since I've had a symbian nokia. I don't use it ALL the time, but I do use it often and it's handy when you do need it.
If you believe the rumours, then multitasking is coming.

Thanked: 227This is a no seller for me, I currently have an android phone which whilst smaller has the potential to basically match up to this offering, also the lack of multitasking capability is a true killer for me. I would have expected this to be in the realm of a lightweight tablet PC but it's not even close, has no real productive value, and for less I could buy an old Q1000 which has everything except the wireless internet offering which I can get by connecting through my phone. Considering the jumps made in mobile tech in the last couple of years this is a step back in my opinion.

Thanked: 25Am I the only one who hates flash? Hate flash websites, hate AIR applications. Noisy buggy annoying. Maybe HTML5 will help to speed the death of Flash.
As for the iPad: might buy one for the heck of it. Would like a USB port though.
Really looking forward to the applications that developers will write. Can imagine it being excellent in the doctor's office. Bring up a patient's x-ray and zoom in on the hip OA, or scroll through the 190 images that make up an MRI. A couple quick taps and an RX refill is faxed to the pharmacy. New patient comes into the office with his entire history on his iPhone and he syncs it to the doc's iPad through bluetooth and everything is imported, including x-rays.
Not a big fan of the Fingerworks technology they bought. I once owned a keyboard by Fingerworks and really really did not like it. I need tactile feedback - the clickier the better.
