Haha. I'll have to buy earplugs then...
In all fairness, I only read about 1/3 of Extreme Measures. Most authors have peaks and valleys, so maybe I just missed out. Unlikely, but...

Over the years I've enjoyed James Michener, John le Carre, Joseph Wambaugh and their kind...an unusual mix, but, these guys pump out good work...interesting, factually based fiction...good authors.

I like to read non-fiction and classic literature. Some of my favourites from the past have been Mary Shelly's Frankenstein, Ernest Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea and John Ralston Saul's Equilibrium. Currently I'm exactly half way through both a very interesting history book by James Shapiro, A Year in the Life of William Shakespeare: 1599 (surprise
) and John Gardener's and John Maier's translation of The Epic of Gilgamesh. Of course, William Shakespeare's works are being pulled out and thumbed through on an almost daily basis.
Breaking with tradition, I'm planning on reading Douglas Adams' Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency next. I've heard good things about it, liked the Hitchhiker's series and just need something light. After that I'm thinking either Cervantes' Don Quixote or Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. We'll have to see.
It's good to be reading again. I'm fresh back at it after a long hiatus when Little Man was born and I really wasn't reading much other than news articles for along time before that. Perhaps it was the hours spent reading Dr. Seuss, Eric Carle and such to him that has warmed me up to it again.
Where are you in it? I did that one almost twenty years ago and it was a chore. Lots of whale guts to slog through before the plot thickens.Last edited by xman; 02-08-2010 at 08:37 PM.
