Default What do you like to read?

What do you like to read (if you do at all) What are some of your favorite books? It seems I like to read books that are based on or have a movie based on them. I'm not sure why porobably because I have somthing to relate it to. So what are some of your favorite books and why?

I really like self-help and personal achievement books...
How to Win Friends and Influence People
7 Habits of Highly Effective People
    Think and Grow Rich
    etc, etc...

Also, I've read everything ever written by Ayn Rand. I read both Atlas Shrugged, and The Fountainhead at least twice a year.

I like good fantasy books, like the LOTR trilogy, the Sword of Truth series (at least the first two, which are the ones I've read thus far), The Wizard of Earthsea and the series, The Vampire Chronicles (read the first three). I used to be a hugy Clancy fan; I read all his books through The Dragon and the Bear (I think that was what it was called), but I haven't read anything by him in some time. I also really like to read philosophy and political philosophy.

At work I'm reading Moby Dick and at home I've just begun to struggle through Freedom of the Will by Jonathan Edwards.

I love the Discworld books by Terry Pratchett. I seem to keep re-reading them..!

I also like crime thriller type books (Patricia Cornwell etc...) and horror stuff like Stephen King and Richard Laymon.

I love reading history books, esp. military/naval history. Two of the best books I've read recently in that genre are Ship of Ghosts and The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors.

I've read James Joyce's books again and again. It is something about that time in Dublin.
Right now I'm reading The Complete Aubrey/Maturin Novels by Patrick O'Brian.

Historical fiction is my favorite.Michael Shaara won a pulitzer prize for "The Killer Angels",a civil war story based on actual events told from different officers and soldiers perspectives. He passed away unexpectedly and his son Jeff Shaara took to writing in the same style and is VERY good at it.He has written several more and they are all GOOD.

Also two books written by Gary Jennings."Aztec" (about the Mayans and Toltecs before being conquered by Cortes)and "The Journeyer"(the Marco Polo story and his journey down the silk road until becoming confidant to Kubli Khan). Both are wonderful stories, about 1000 pages and so good you don't want them to end when they do!

"The Killer Angels" was a great book.

I've read most of the Tom Clancy books.

My favorite authors right now are WEB Griffin, Stephen Hunter and Vince Flynn. I have read all of their books except for the latest Stephen Hunter (I, Sniper) which is on my kindle while I finish the latest WEB Griffin (The honor of spies).

I typically enjoy very long, painful, boring books. I'm a glutton for punishment.

Nonfiction, mostly. History, economics, physics, etc.
