Hots dogs will kill you.
Hot Dogs are choking hazards
This story just popped up. Unlike this article when the local news covered it they were talking about the pea size food for kids 7 and 8 years old.
Now I know for a fact I have a cynical streak, but I think this is starting to go a bit too far. Do you think we're losing sight of common sense and are letting the government hold our hand?

Thanked: 530I can't even tell you how much of my nonexistant faith in humanity just died... It's FOOD. If you eat too fast you CHOKE. It doesn't need labels, and it doesn't need to be cut into pea sized bits like you're a death-row inmate on suicide watch.

Totally.
A governments job is to erect street lighting and park benches, and thats about it. But it seems that, on a national and international scale, the worlds governments want to meddle and control peoples lives.
And companies are having to go along with it because they can get sued into the ground if they dont. Hence the warnings on firearms, "Warning! Contents Hot!" stickers on the side of coffee cups and, here in the UK at least, stickers warning "This product may contain traces of nuts" on the packet for... wait for it.... KP Peanuts.

I know someone who's child died from choking on a piece of hot dog. About as tragic and sad is it gets; the child was being watched by the grandfather. Could you imagine watching your grandchild and feeding him and having him choke to death from it when the child was in your care?
I don't know what good the warning labels would really do. I think pediatricians should educate parents as to choking hazards and the size of foods for the young.
I saved my oldest son's life when he was approx 1 year old when he started choking on a piece of frozen berry. It was an experience I don't wish on anyone.

Thanked: 530Also, I don't mean to sound like the choking thing isn't a hazard, or that it isn't traumatic, I understand how terrible it is -as much as I can without having gone through it- But seriously... Some people just need to watch their kids... If you give a kid something tasty, they eat it fast, so keep an eye on them. It's just one of those things that shouldn't need a warning label.
Like putting a "Caution: This is heavy, do not drop on foot" sign on a bowling ball, or something...

Not to minimize the tragedy of anyone who has personal experience with such a thing as someone choking to death from a hot dog or whatever but on the 'caution' thing in general ..... it really irritated me when they started stamping the warnings on firearms. Ruger in particular.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 530That's what I was aiming at, Jimmy... I don't want to make light of someone this happened to, but if you don't watch a little kid when he is eating something tasty, you're just inviting trouble.
