I don't smoke a pipe ( well maybe only on vacation in Amsterdam ) but I roll my own smokes and use some nice flavoured tobacco leaf .. IMHO you'd be hard pushed to beat Dutch Halfzware shag .. all but a few of the curious old English tobacco's are very hard to come by ..... .....
Living and staying on the west coast of Scotland I'm spoiled for choice in the Whisky dept , also to you golf lovers I live about 40mins drive from Troon

How far are you from Laphroaig on Islay? How about Tallisker on Skye? Careful with your answers as I may show up on your doorstep one afternoon (and never leave ).

I'm about a 4.5 hr drive from Skye , this used to be my vacation Isle - I used to visit about 3-4 times a year . I've taken the Talisker Distillery tour . I'm not sure about Islay as I haven't visited there .... Incidentally both Whiskies you mention are very "peaty" some may say harsh but each to there own .. I like some of the more mellow malts like Macallan

keep this quiet , Im not a great Haggis eater .. I much prefer simply shooting them

Garry are you anywhere near St. Andrews? Ayr maybe? A couple of friends and myself are loosely planning a golf trip over your way in a few years. Actually we're in the "hey let's do this" stage. Whether or not it actually happens remains to be seen. It'd be fun to hoist a few pints if you're nearby. Hopefully we'll be able to factor in a round at Troon, too early to tell. We'll probably take a week or so in Scotland, a couple of days of which I want to spend in Ayr(shire?). My grandfather came to the US from there when he was but a lad. His father brought the family over with him when he came for coal mining work. I've always wanted to see the place from whence he hailed ~ who knows, maybe I still have a cousin or two about the area. Fine Scotch whiskies, a day on the links, a few pints of ale...these things are me. I've even been known to toss a dart or two. Haggis, not so much

Sadly St. Andrews is some distance away from .. more to the north east , however it just so happens I stay in a lovely little town called Largs ( our claim to fame being we stopped the vikings raiding Scotland in 1263 ) which just also happens to be in Ayrshire ..

Damn vikings!! OK then Garry if we're both still hanging around this board in a year or three, maybe we can get together for a few pints and razor stories...

That certainly sounds like a great idea ... hopefully I'll be profficant enough shaving by then and the scars from my mishaps gone .. ( currently sporting three lovely slice scars from my learning experience ) ...... You'll really enjoy Scotland if you like golf , light refreshments and lovely scenery ..

Garry,
My wifes family came from Scotland 3 generations ago. We visted Scotland in 1987 (Edinburgh) and found the weather a bit grey and dreary. However the people were as nice as could be- super friendly and helpful. Plus I loved the fact that you didn't tip bartenders there. I was getting use to the non cold beer.
