I'm retired from the USAF ('03). I did 21 years (one year stop loss'd). I was the superintendent for both USAF Intelligence analyst specialist schoolhouses (Officer and Enlisted) when I retired as a MSGT. I was a law enforcement specialist for 3 years and an intel analyst for about 18.

Not much reason to thank me though, it was a really fun job and an incredible career.

THe Army was a place that I looked on as a hobby..I would get ****ed every four years and get out only to remember that the reason I joined was because it wasn't that I liked the Army chain of Command, it was that I hated civilians more......To me they were a weakly (no offense, that was when I was younger, lot) with jobs that all of them hated..So I would come back in after few months, or years and go back to the job I loved and the Chain of Command that bugged the crap out of me.....Saying all that I was a Cavalry Scout, infantry, SF (11th Group, god rest their souls) Ranger, Sniper....Retired after the first Iraq run, was put on orders for Ranger instructor in Florida..Retired in Colorado instead and have been working as a Military contractor every since......I really like this kind of work, I wished there knew there was work like this out there years ago. Thank you guys for your service.!

20+ years behind and i still do not know what i'm going to be when i grow up.

I was about 10 years in the army , first at Coastal Jaegers, then at Guards Jaegers and finally i got a transfer into my home town regiment. Through the years i've been in command in Lebanon, former Yugoslavia and Tschad.

Then my regiment got redeployed away from my home town so i asked and got a transfer in the navy with my ranks. Started at Naval Infantry (ATU), then spent few years at the Naval Academy and studied to be a ship engine technician. Now i serve at the ship at engine team.
Our rank system is a bit different than in U.S but i am sergeant master class.

Still 9 years to go before retirement and freedom

U.S. Air Force 1980-2005, Aircrew Life Support Specialist (about the same job as the original poster but different branch. Assignments included:

    Mountain Home, ID
    Clark AB, Philippines
    Eielson AFB, Alaska
    NAS Keflavik Iceland
    Fairchild AFB, Washington
    Dyess AFB, Texas

Loved every damn second of it. Everything I ever thought about civilians and their attitudes about work, etc. turns out to be not far off the mark. Nearly five years into retirement, I think I'm adjusting but I still miss the environment of the military, the comradery and the ability to trust that if someone says it will be done or they will be there, that it's so.
