Thanked: 2259Some folks have thought that I came by my name paying homage to the libation of Bass Ale and Guinness... and I admit to enjoying a few of those in my day. But, in truth, I chose the name because of a near lifelong obcession and committment to the Field bred Gordon Setter. Now, I have an English Setter here also out of FT lines, and I just might be adding a Red Setter to the mix, as probably my last high powered gundog, but I'll never forget the Gordon as a breed, or some of the great Gordon gundogs I've had the pleasure of gunning over, and being a companion to in the past.

Mine came from a Dungeons and Dragons character I made back in the 80's.. I started using it on the old BBS systems then and stuck with it through the other iterations of Online places ( Sierra Online, Prodigy, Compuserve..etc). Since it is not really a well known name I can normally get it on any forum I join.
The picture in my avatar is actually from my online gaming character I had a couple of years ago.

Mine comes from JorjX Mckie the hero of two Frank Herbert novels: Whipping Star and The Dosadi Experiment.
I have read all of is novels (that I know of) and Dune, Children of Dune and The Dosadi Experiment are those I preferred and read many times.
On French language forums I'm JorjX on English one's I'm Mckie.
French is my first language.
Good day,
McKie

LinacMan: My username is derived from what I do for a living. I'm a veterinary radiologist and radiation oncologist. Most radiation therapy in the USA is performed with a machine that makes high energy x-rays and electrons used to treat a wide variety of cancers in animals and man. The machine is called a linear accelerator, or linac for short. It's an incredibly complicated, expensive, and fantastic machine. To make x-rays it shoots electrons from an electron gun (similar to that found in an old style TV tube) into a tube called a wave guide. Simultaneously a magnetron (like the one in your microwave oven) sends microwaves into the wave guide. The electrons shot from the gun "surf" the microwaves, and in about 4.5 feet they are accelerated to near the speed of light. They slam into a tungsten target and high energy x-rays are produced. Pretty cool!
If you want to see a picture of one, under images, Google "Varian linac" or "Seimens linac".
Since I use a linac, I decided to use LinacMan as my username. If any of you play PS3 games, that's my username on the PS network too.
My avatar is a picture I took this past March when I went on a photographic safari in the Masai Mara in southwestern Kenya. The cheetah just stood there for a long time like she was posing for us. I got a lot of great pics of her. This one I like the best. I guess cheetah are lightening fast, just like linacs.

mine is a nickname that some of my close friends used to call me from about grade 4 on (chee) , plus soccer/football number. the nickname was weird as it started as a variation of my first name (Wesley), it progressed from wes-chee (remember this is grade 4) to wes-cheek to leftcheek and then it was short formed back to just chee. BTW none of this progression was influenced by me as i like my name (Wes), it was all my friends ideas.
my avatar is Colin Edwards riding the Aprillia Cube in Motogp and the bike obviously bursting into flames. i just really like the pic.

Just an avatar really, like the film.
The character Deckard himself was somewhat of an avatar, was he a replicant or human???? (he didn't know).
Bladerunner is to this day the best movie of all time IMHO.
