Thanks all for the input & advice. I cycled this morning to, I guess, force the issue a little and also to compensate for my inevitable ale intake today. Surprisingly there was no pain at all and upon finishing, after about 25 minutes or so intense cycling, I feel a lot better. I will stick to the bike for a week and try the treadmill again and see how it goes. There is no real tightness or noticeable inflamation. It feels like the pain is inside the joint. Hopefully time and conditioning will solve my problem because I dont plan on giving it up. It is quite an enjoyable workout and certainly relieves the boredom of cycling 6 days a week. Thanks again you fine fellows.

Mykel, I still ride bicycles quite a bit and was a road man for 35 years or so before discovering off road singletrack trail riding. For the past 5 years I've been avidly pursuing singletrack trails and it is rarely boring. I didn't ride road bikes at all for a few years and found on going back to the road that I was no longer bored with that. If you get into the off road and then mix the two up they really compliment each other and make it fun again.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Try going for an actual jog once your knees feel better and see if the pain returns.
Very painful, my daughter developed this which took her out of College Athletics.

Rest the knees, then try an elliptical machine. Very easy on the knees and you still get a good workout. I have mine in front of the TV and watch the news. Makes the time pass.
    Hope you feel better.
