Hello to all the Linux users in this Forum
Hi everybody,
I'm a new user here, but I'm having a lot of fun, reading all the interesting posts, and also learning a hell of a lot about razors and shaving do's and don'ts.
I wanted to talk to any other users who use Linux on there PC's. For example, I have a problem viewing any video clip about shaving if it is in Quicktime format. There is a couple of Quicktime for linux websites, but the procedures of getting and installing are beyond me. I have been using linux exclusively, for a couple yrs now, but the learning curve is high and tough, so I constantly bump into tasks that I try and fail. But I'm always learning something everyday.
Any linux users in here can post and share, maybe tell me if you know how to play Quicktime video clips, or maybe you know of an improved multimedia app that can show mov's, mpg's, etc.

Eddie, how bout you help me with my spanish and I'll help you with your linux? .
P.M. me with an email, or Instant messenger name and we can chat. There are several really good clients for movies that play quicktime quite nicely. How you install depends on your current configuration.

Hey Eddie. I don't know which distro you use, but if you get Ubuntu (Debian-based) installing any packages will be a breeze. It's almost as easy to use as Windoze.

Thanks , FireStart
I am using SuSE 10, and I really like it. I don't want to change. As I was just telling FUD, I have Kaffeine and Realplayer ver 10. They don't handle Quicktime, and I have bumped into some shaving vid clips that I want to see, that are in quicktime format.

Hey! This is quick-reply. I didn't see this before, that's why I posted to answer you. I'm discovering how to do things in this forum.

Thanked: 4There are a bunch of us on here that use one variety of Linux or another. I am learning my way through Linux, and am now at about the point in my Linux education where I was when I was working with Windows 3.1. I still have a lot to learn to get to the same level of expertise that I have with MicrosStinks products, but it took me a long time to learn what I know about those, too.
Right now I have three computers running three different versions, and I like all three that I'm using right now. They are Ubuntu (Gnome interface), Kubuntu (KDE interface), and Fedora Core 5.
I've played with SuSE, Mandrake (now Mandriva), TurboLinux, Knoppix, CentOS, Xandros, and many others, but I'm really pretty pleased with all three of the versions I'm using right now. I'm trying to settle on one version to use, but I find that I like certain things about all three of my current systems.
I guess it's like my razors. I can't make up my mind about excluding any of them, because I like them all for different reasons.

For anyone else using linux here (already emailed Eddie)
Mplayer with plugins plays quicktime. However it tends to conflict with realplayer so you either choose between the two, or find a version of mplayer for your flavor of linux that's realplayer disabled, or if you're really good with coding and compiling kernels you download a version for another flavor and port it to your favorite linux flavor.
I typically use Fedora because of the support that seems to be out there. I'm able to set up linux for blind users more easily in Fedora, yum works wonderfully for most installs and updates in fedora, etc. etc. etc. While I don't like the new Enterprise/testuser split that redhat has done I do like how many advanced redhat users have stepped up to the plate and provided wonderful techsupport (fedoraforum.org, linuxquestions.org, stanton-finlay.net, etc., etc.)
If I ever get really adventurous I'm going to try to finish my universal installer for linux. I have a sneaking suspicion that the community efforts to standardize linux distributions will succeed before me though . I've gotten so far away from coding that I'd really have to spend some time just getting back into the nitty gritty.

I have ran SUSE, Mandriva, Slackware, Ubuntu, and Debian. Out of all of then my personal favorite is Debian. It is so easy to set up, and the software package manager is out of this world...
All in all, Linux rocks like a Penguin! =)
Mark.
