    Default Sharing a bit

Ok guys, my offer to trade beer for razors went over like a lead balloon. Sorry if anyone felt insulted by the offer, it wasn't meant to be insulting and if it was taken that way I want to correct the misimpression.

*HOWEVER* (there's always a "but" isn't there?) just to share a little bit of very good news, and just so you guys don't think I was offering old milwaukee quality beer or something... 3 of my beers just took medals in the first round of the national homebrewing competition regionals last weekend. I took a first place for my scottish 70 shilling, a first place for my california common, and a third place for my oatmeal stout. Those three beers now move up to the second round finals in Florida in two months.

In addition, I took a day of vacation from work yesterday and spent all day brewing my 70 shilling recipe at a 465 gallon batch size with a professional brewer for a local brewpub, and they'll be selling my recipe on tap in about two weeks I had a *great* time and learned SO much from this guy it blew my gourd. This guy does his brewing extremely hands-on, has zero automation and does it all by feel, experience and knowledge of his equipment and processes. I was completely floored by the level of skill and talent he had... every single drop of the beer we brewed was hand crafted, just like all his products. I definitely have a new level of respect for his product after helping out for the day.

So... now does anyone want to trade beer for old razors that I can use for honing practice? (heh heh heh... sorry couldn't resist. I'm not serious, I've learned my lesson).

I don't think anyone was insulted. If anyone was "insulted" by an honest offer, they're subhuman troglodytic morons anyway. Not interested, maybe, but probably not offended. I considered the offer, but didn't have anything decent enough to send. Either I restore them, or they're not worth restoring, and as such wouldn't have made a decent project for you. I have one coming, though, that may be just what you're looking for. I'll evaluate it, and if I think you can do something with it, I'll let you know and send it along.

Thanks, Joe... I'm so new around here and I always try to tread lightly wherever I go. I've found that since it's hard to read emotions into text it's easy to inadvertantly put your foot in your mouth sometimes.

I'm still going over the list that you sent me before and will probably pull the trigger on one of them this weekend. I make decisions kind of slowly... which since I'm getting married soon and am having to make TONS of decisions about wedding/reception/honeymoon it's driving my poor fiancee crazy

I think I'll probably hit Tony up for a starter kit as well, if he'll do me one minus the mug/brush/etc. That way I'll have two quality razors to use and a good strop, while I hunt for a project one to practice honing. I'm sure I'll need plenty of practice and would hate to ruin a good restored razor or a good new razor by being inept.

I did go ahead and buy a feather from classic shaving and have started using it to get some shaving practice in during the interim. I've used it three or four times now and have an appreciation for just how darned sharp those things are. It's ok, but honestly I think I'll be happier with a "proper" straight from one of you guys. The feather just doesn't feel "right" for some reason that I can't put my finger on.

Congratulations on your brewing! If I had spare razors, I would definitely trade you for some homebrew. Sounds like a great trade to me personally.

You waited a bit too long. Everything on the list is sold. I've got some more projects coming in, so I may sell some of those. I've got 11 on the way. 2 for sure won't be sold, but the other nine may find their way on a list. I'm always picking up a few here and there.
