I shave in the morning before everyone gets up during the week. On Saturday, I often won't shave and then on Sunday I enjoy a nice long luxurious shave while the wife and my daughter (20 months) are getting ready for church. I think it helps that I am an early bird and my idea of "sleeping in" is 6am.
Good luck!
Cheers!

Thanked: 240With a wife and your first kid you shouldn't need to worry about shaving I'm sure you are pulling all your hair out already! Sorry that was the first thing I thought of and being young, single and not having any kids thought it was funny. I'm sure one day if I'm ever blessed/cursed with a family I will hear my sad joke echoing in my head. Anyway if I was in a hurry and couldn't find the time I'd probably fall back to the old DE, the lack of stropping and ease of maintaince would save some time even/ be safer with a hectic household.

Thanked: 234If you're working from home, you probably don't HAVE to shave every day for work? I'm meant to, but I find when I have to do something in my own time to satisfy my boss, I don't get as much pleasure out of it and I tend to have maybe 3 shaves a week.
If I were you, I would shave in the evenings, or if it was that much of a hassle to shave with a straight, I would keep it for maybe once or twice a week - that way, you will get quicker over time, and it won't cause you so much hassle during the week.
Don't forget that with experience, there is no reason why the whole 2 pass straight shave should take more than 10 minutes.

shaving and kids
I think that is a very good question. I now have two girls (one is 2 1/2 and the other is 2 months). Like other comments on here when life is busy I tend to do the shaving at night, after the girls are in bed. It tends to be really relaxing and sets my mind at ease for the day. Second thing I do is I only do a WTG pass now. Sure I like to do 3 passes if I have time, but the reality is I don't. My WTG has gotten extremely good now that i only need to do the other two if I want to go on a fancy date with my wife or something. In terms of up keep of your equipment, I just strop everytime and then hone when needed, thats it. If I am really busy I will just use a disposable razor to get the job done (though my face hates me for the rest of the day).

Thanked: 234I wouldn't worry about upkeep to be honest, I strop before the shave, SOMETIMES after. All my razors were honed when I bought them, so most of them have been with me for say 6 months and some for over a year now - not all of them have been re-honed yet. Maybe I will do them all together on my next day off. Either way, it's not something that is going to consume hours of your life on a regular, or even semi regular, basis.

I've always done my shave late at evening, and nowadays my kids are 18 and 16 so they do not really care about my shavings. We have 2 bathrooms so that is no problem either.
When kids were younger i remember i just shaved when i did feel it is time to do so. Kids or wife never bothered me. When someone spends his/her time in the bathroom it is not up to others to to bother or interrupt it (unless a good reason of course).'That is what i do. I drink and i know things'

I feel your pain and know what you're going through as well. I am now a first time dad to a 6 week old baby boy. One of the best pieces of advice my wife and I have recieved so far is to "remember to also take care of yourself." I manage to find time to enjoy a hot shower and shave and my wife understands that I too, need some "me" time. I know in the future I may need to put up the straights for awhile, but for now I will enjoy them while I can. Best of luck and congratulations!
