Alright you big buff burly men, come take a looksee...especially you Matt!
So, I am driving home from work tonight and am in the mood for a little music. This is odd because I rarely listen to music in my truck...or anywhere else for that matter. Anyways this song comes on the radio:
YouTube - Etta James - At Last
A cold shiver instantly runs up my spine to the opening line and a little tear comes to my eye (No Matt, I wasnt smoking a ceegar) Anyways I immediately thought of Matts (MHailey) most recent thread, "Why do you like to cry" so I just had to poke my thumb in his eye and see whether the boy was capable of tearing up.
Okay, enough of picking on my good friend Matt. This thread is for all you manly men who rarely cry. What I want to know is what are those moments that catch you off guard and you find a little tear in your eye.
Complete honesty will be greatly appreciated for this thread as I believe that this thread will expose to all onlookers what true manliness is. To me there is a great strength in true manliness but our unguarded moments truly highlight our manliness and also our weaknesses. So I guess what I am asking is that each of us be willing to expose our deepest self by speaking and giving true life examples of these unguarded moments.
Thank you and I look forward to all posts.

I just have to add that I think Etta James has an incredible set of pipes!

Well the song did nothing for me. No tears there.
I was caught off guard just the other day when I was going through a photo album and came across a few pictures of myself and my deceased father. I cried then. I also have the same reaction every so often when I think about my previous dog.
I also cry when I hit my thumb with a hammer or stab myself by accident when making a knife. I don't generally cry when I stub my toe, but I do swear a bit.

PBS aired Edward Scissorhands last week. I had never seen it so went to Amazon to read the reviews. There were hundreds of positive reviews but I read the 4 negative one star reviews. I decided to watch it and see what I thought. I only teared up at the very end. I would give it three stars.
Last night I was watching a documentary that included Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King giving his I have a dream and I've been to the mountaintop speeches. I cannot listen to much of those without becoming choked with emotion and tearing up even though I've heard them over and over for more than forty years. Some may consider it unmanly to cry but I'd rather be the sentimental slob that I am than an emotional cripple.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

This one gets me every time. Derek Redmond was a sprinter who won gold medals at world championships and the like during his career. At the 1992 Olympics he tore a hamstring in the middle of the 400m semi-final. Did he limp off the field? Nope, he carried on, and when the jobsworthy stewards attempted to shoo him off, his father came on and they crossed the line together. The crowd gave him a standing ovation. (After that race, Redmond's surgeon told him that he would never run a race again.)
