apart from the glycerine, there's nothing in my bayrum that would prevent me from drinking it...

Maybe so, but MOST do contain something you can't consume, and I was more specifically referring to what can be purchased, not what has been made.
However, it is a good point.

I've got a good feeling about this.
You could always use a flavored vodka.. though I was using that as most recipes I found said to use 2 different types of alcohol. I am sure you could sub the vodka with some schnapps or something with a fruitier flavor.

    As an old bar/nightclub guy

Bay in a drink name usually means "with Cranberry"
so if you are thinking a drink named a "Bay Rum" ?????

    Like
    Bay Rum Punch
    or
    Bay Rum Breezer

I would start with a dark rum and cranberry and build from there to taste....

Bacardi Silver could be a starter with Cranberry for a lighter spritzer type drink

    like
    Bay Rum Sparkler
Silver/Cranberry splash of 7-up garnish with a bay leaf for effect

Bay can be a pretty overpowering flavor. You should think about making a simple syrup, and letting the bay leaves steep in it while it cooks; that way, you could control how much bay actually ends up in your final product. I'm intersted in how this turns out, be sure to let us know how you decide to go about it.

Basically you want super-spiced rum with bay added.

I would start with a clear rum, and make a flavour syrup with a LOT of cloves, cinammon, and Allspice (which is the dessicated fruit of the only other plant in the Jamaican Bay genus) and a bit (just a bit) of sweet bay. I would not use Jamaican bay because it is less... food safe.

Could be a smashing good drink, IMO. Not sure if it would be better cold, warm, or hot.

Allspice and cloves is what most Bay Rum smells like to me. I think I read somewhere that allspice is actually a species related to the bay in bay rum.

    Geez now I am confused...

The Sea Breeze is one of many popular vodka and juice mixed drinks that every aspiring bartender should know. There are a few drinks that can be easily confused with the Sea Breeze: the Greyhound is grapefruit juice only, the Bay Breeze is pineapple and cranberry juices, and the Cape Cod is cranberry juice only.

Start re-writing those drink recipes and start adding pineapple too
