Thanked: 19What numbers are you referring too?
It's pretty obvious that any gay person would hide the fact they are gay. Look what happened to Alan Turing. He was criminally prosecuted for being gay. Even after all the work he did to help win WWII.
How exactly do they push it down anyones throat? By not hiding it? Why should they hide it? Do heterosexual people hide their sexuality?

Thanked: 150Why belittle my opinions, and then ask for them? It was my understanding from your opening sentence that my comments on the US laws are irrelevant. As such, all that follows will also be irrelevant, but I will not dodge your question. The reason that the protection of religious freedoms trump the protection of homosexuals from discrimination is because the law says it does.
Under federal law, sexual orientation is not a protected class. Religion, Race, National origin, Gender, color, Age (if you are over 40). These are protected classes. Sexual orientation is not.
Again, this applies to the irrelevant laws of the US.Last edited by mhailey; 11-19-2010 at 03:11 PM. Reason: to clarify the last sentence in the first paragraph.

It's not a matter of hiding it, it's a matter of promoting it. Have you seen the Gay Parades through out the country? The Gay Olympics? When was the last time you heard of Straight Parades and Straight Olympics. Watch a movie and see how the gays are front and center and make the point they are gay. Do the straights get a chance to say "hey, we're straight"? To say this is not happening is denyinng reality.
I think we can respectably agree to disagree. I don't think we are going to change each other's mind. All we are doing is giving examples and counter examples. As a statistician, let me provide you with a timely quote:
"People use statistics like a drunk uses a lamp post at night, more for support than enlightenment."

Thanked: 150If you wear straight pride t-shirts you are forced to cover up the message or take the shirt off. Chicago High School Uses 'Straight Pride' Shirts for Rights Education - FoxNews.com

Thanked: 19Yeah they aren't hiding the fact they are gay. Why would straight people need to have a parade? Their lifestyle is accepted by society.
It's the same for any minority that were persecuted.
There are a lot more movies about straight love then gay love.
Of course straight people get to say we're straight. They can get married. Gays can not. That is the ultimate way to say to society that you are straight. Straight people can walk down the street holding hands or kiss in public without fear of being ridiculed.
To say that gays are treated the same way as straights by society is to deny reality.
And all your examples above do not show how they are shoving it down your throat. You are not forced to watch or attend any of those things.
It really sounds like that unless they hide the fact they are gay then that equates to shoving it down your throat.

Thanked: 19The school decided to allow them to wear them.
"A Chicago high school has decided to allow a small group of students to wear "Straight Pride" T-shirts, despite resistance from other students"
And that's not all it said on the shirt.
Three students came to school wearing "Straight Pride" T-shirts bearing the Bible quotation, "If a man lay with a male as those who lay with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination and shall surely be put to DEATH," which appears in Leviticus 20:13.
And they decided to wear the shirts during the week that the school was bringing attention to the bullying of gays, lesbians and transgenders

All I'm hearing NYCshaver is how certain sectors of our society are victims and need preferential treatment. This is a major flaw in our culture today. The victims make the rules and everything is reduced to the lowest common denominator. There is a book titled "The Victimization of America". It hits a home run.
