You can do it, you just have to fight for it.
I used to say "Never Ever" over and over again when I was trying to talk myself into some sort of nicotine or tobacco.

Good luck with quitting.. another thing you can do is every time you seem to think about Cope picture your daughter or son. Children can be a great motivator in stopping a bad habit. My uncle stopped smoking cold turkey from being a carton a day smoker ( he was in construction and on average had 5 to 10 cigarettes in his mouth at a time when working ) because his son got sick and the docs told him it was due to nicotine transfer through the skin.

As far as possible future harm I would not worry too much at the moment as your focus should be getting off the stuff and letting your body repair itself.

    Default Good luck Speckey!

    Speckey,
Congrats on deciding to give up your snuff. The decision to quit was my first step also, and like you I dipped about two cans a day for about 15 years until one day I just said that I wanted to quit. It took about a week before I began to stop craving it but I just focused on something else when things got bad. By the end of the second week I no longer had the cravings and it got better and better. It does suck for a few days but overall it will be one of the best things you’ve ever done. There have been days since I quit almost twelve years ago that I thought about picking it back up but then I thought about why I quit and the moment passed.
Whatever your personal reason for quitting, keep that foremost in your mind and you will be successful.
    Good luck,
    Eric

Well I didn't wait. I had my last dip this am at 5:45 am.
After bring my daughter to school my son and I went to the store to load up on hard candy and gum. I have been sucking on sugarless candies all morning, So far so good.

I think if your going to do it do it now. I didn't want to prolong the battle so today is the day. I am sure it will get harder as the day goes on but I will let you know about that later.

Excellent! I had that thought as well--that once you made the resolution that you should start immediately, but I chose to keep that to myself in order to not be pushy. This is completely your endeavor. You've already made a great start by your action quickly following your decision.

Much strength to you - remember, cravings pass in a few minutes - regrets take much longer. Be strong - you can do this.

Good luck. You can do it. I also agree, go cold turkey. I started smoking when I was in grade school. My friend and I would pick up unsmoked or barely smoked cigarettes tossed by the side of the road. There was a hotel close by that had a cig machine in the lobby out of plain site. Once I discovered that, it was Marb Reds long before I could drive a car! I was around a pack a day for over ten years after that.

My story is fairly similar to yours. One day I was showering for work and completely out of nowhere a thought hit me: "I'm going to quit smoking today." I had just bought a new carton a few days earlier. Cold Turkey. I chucked the carton in the garbage. Of course it was tough. But I locked on and wouldn't give in. That was about twelve years ago. Now I'm a militant non-smoker.

You can quit this. If anything, quit for the rush of it. Yes, QUIT for the rush. You're strong enough to do it. Put your body through some pain and come out the other side stronger for it.

Congratulations Speckey! You can do this and as many others have said, you'll feel better for it. I think you're awesome for giving yourself and your family this gift for Christmas.
