    Default Damn common cold !

I'm on day three of a bad head cold. Had to leave work early Sunday and by Monday felt like I was going to die and afraid I wouldn't. Nose running water, scratchy throat stimulating a lot of coughing and my head felt like it weighs 50 pounds. So I missed Monday and today at work.

The hell of it is I got it from a guy I work with. We have an unwritten rule that if you catch cold or flu don't come to work and give it to the rest of the crew. Things have been so bad that this bum came in anyway when he was really too sick to work. Took about a week to gestate in me before it came to fruition. So because he is a one way expletive deleted I've been like sin dipped in misery for the past couple of days. Slight improvement today.

Sorry to hear about your misery, but I have a simple solution to your problem. Nasal Irrigation. I use the Neilmed sinus rinse kit Buy Neilmed Sinus Rinse Kit online at CVS.com

Since using that, my sinus problems have virtually disappeared. It may take some time getting used to squirting water up your nose but once you figure out your best method, it's quick and easy.

Sorry to hear this. Now resting under warm blanket and lot of sleep is the only way to get back well. In a case of high fever some medicine might help too.

When i was younger most people tried to cure their flu with vodka, but i'm not sure if it really worked or if it just made the time being sick run faster I rather stick with hot tea and blueberry or sea buckthorn soup.

It is really a bad behavior when somebody goes to work while being sick. Doesn't much care about other people when doing so.

    Get well soon.

    jimmy,

is the cork still in the jug? if not.. a few shots of jamesons always sets me straight..

or if that's not an option.. i'd try to boost your immune system.. emergen-c packets or airbourne work great..

and even another great option is to raise your body temperature and sweat it out.. i think plato or someone has a qoute about that.. hitup a sauna or steamroom if available.

    get well soon.

I suppose it depends on your work environment. Of course, if you've acually got 'flu then you would be incapable of making it to work.
The Common Cold on the other hand, is so commonplace in Britain during the winter that not much work would be done if every time someone caught one they downed tools.

The biggest problem is that nowadays many people don't have any manners or sense of basic hygiene. They don't carry a handkerchief, cough all over other folk and don't wash their hands often enough.

During last winter's swine 'flu panic in the UK, people actually started to wash their hands more frequently. The unintended consequence was that gastro-intestinal upsets reduced by about 30%. Put another way, some people will only wash their hands after using the lavatory if they're scared into it.

Yes, since May the 6th 2010. One day at a time I'm going to keep it that way. I did bundle up and get under the covers the first night to sweat it out. I don't take any meds. Just let it run it's course. Sometimes the meds just mask symptoms and don't do the liver any good. Thanks for the get well wishes from everyone.

It's annoying when people only care about themselves and don't give a damn about what they do to others. In the old days, it was considered admirable if you sucked it up and came to work even if you are sick. In reality, it's selfish and diminishes the productivity of co-workers who subsequently become sick.

I have become a big fan of nasal irrigation. I sleep better and breathe better. If you google "neti pot," you will find cheap options that work great.

About the Emergen-C, in my opinion, it's just expensive vitamin C with miscellaneous other stuff. If you want to take Linus Pauling's advice, a cheaper option is just vitamin C and a decent multi-vitamin.

+1. It doesn't always help, but if for some reason there is a lot of dust or pollen up my nose, I just take an ampul of physiological water, squirt it up my nostrils and then snort it back out when it reaches my throat.

Yes, it is gross. And icky.
    But it works.

    Wink

Jimmy, it is possible that you have the uncommon cold which could require a completely different set of remedies. Considering this possibility, the cadre of hope and help should be jumping in here momentarily to suggest further, stronger, better remedial, remedical actions and curatives.

    Good luck

(I can do this because I'm still a sot)
