    Default Hat Help

I have always liked hats, but have no idea what style for my shape head. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as well as links to purchase from or even referential. I do not know what I want as for style, but I want something for daily use, separate summer and winter hats. I prefer to spend under 300 USD each and would prefer closer to 100. I normally wear black button front shirts and jeans as well as a black leather coat so I figure color doesn't matter. The only picture that I have of myself is quite old (I didn't shave then).

    Thanks for the help.

    Hi Gerritt,

I'd suggest a top quality, classic tweed newsboy cap (not that Kangol thing...). Maybe one that is a little wider. They're warm, you can stuff them in your back pocket and if you get something like a Stetson, they'll last forever.

    regards,
    Torolf

The newsie cap is a good idea, but you might also consider a flat-cap. It's only a slight variation, but might suit you better. Obviously, there's no reason to pay anywhere near $300 for a good hat unless you want a silk top hat.

Either style is readily available in tweed (winter) or cotton (summer). Living in the Northwest, I can wear the tweed about 10 months out of the year. For either style, I HIGHLY recommend Glennapin. I've had two Glenappin flat-caps, but only because I lost the first one and never found it. In fact, by first was the "Harris Tweed Country Cap" on the page I linked, and the second (which I wore today) is the "Harris Tweed All Wool Cap." Same colors and everything. The only difference was that I bought them at a local shop. (Had to pay $60/ea local)

Maybe you'll find some inspiration here.

I have recently gotten into the flat caps... Something different and practical for my age...

If you are interested in flat caps, there are several places that you can buy them fairly cheap... The nice thing about the cheap caps is if you don't like them after a period of time, pass them along...

This is a Flat Cap that I bought in my travels... $10.00... I have to take it off at times, it's so warm...

I was thinking a newsboy or flat cap as well for everyday wear. Its really a matter of finding yourself a hat store somewhere and trying them on. What you may think will look good, once seen on yourself might not be such a great idea..lol.

I'd recommend a fedora with a substantial brim since, like me you seem to have a large and somewhat round face. You should be able to spot something to your liking here.
Hey! Looking for Fedora Hats? Great Selection of Stetson Hats and Fedora.

If I had some money to spend, I'd really take a close look at that Stetson Stratoliner. It really is a classic and a darned good looking lid to boot.

I've been few years with flat caps. I couldn't have imagined wearing those when i was younger, but now i have no such problems any more
I bought mine from local hat maker. It cost little more than ones you see in eBay but i wanted to be sure that it isn't made in China or Korea.
Some of my mates have ordered their hats from Hanna Hats of Donegal. They seem to make some really fine looking hats.
