I thought you would like it. Make sure and let the view "cycle" a few times. Each time it has a different view of the mechanism.

As far as wilson vs. STI vs. Les Baer.......

In my opinion go with the STI. Comparing the STI and the Wilson you will see better crafstmanship in the STI. Things like fit and finish are a lot better. A gunsmith friend of mine used to work for Bill wilson. He had a very low opinion of him. Les baer makes some great stuff but your going to pay a lot more for it than you will for an STI.

I'll have to look into it all more...I only buy a weapon if I can really use it or carry it, so I dont want anything with competition type tolerances...I just want something that I can depend on. Its hard to get to the bottom of all of it when most people market the tight tolerences for competition shooters...

Honestly any of them would work for a Carry gun. I am like you I don't buy a pistol I can't carry. the STI I have is my wifes carry gun. It is pretty tight (what Bill wilson strives for. The issue is reliability. I think a strong arguement can be made that a tight tolerance actually keeps stuff out that could cause a problem. often times a "loose" gun is loose at one end or the other. This means one sides gap is bigger than the other sides. This allows grit to git in that can pass through one side but not the other creating a problem.

I have to say, I love shooting my old Springfield Armory 1911, but I'd rather carry my Glock

My next pistol will be a .45 Colt I'm thinking.

Ya thats true, but tight tolerances also make jams more of an issue. I suppose on an STI everything is so well balanced that jaming isnt an issue. If I cant shoot 1000 rounds (generally 2 sessions of 500 rounds) without a jam than I wont carry it.

I have been to 1911forum.com quite a bit but not for the last year or so...I spent several years at packing.org as well, but also have drifted from there as well.

I loved my Glock, but I couldnt get over the lack of a regular safety. So reliable though. Im sure its as safe as a gun with a standard safety, it was just a mental thing for me.

The other big thing is when I started carrying I was doing some security work for some people and I had to carry IWB and a single stack mag and balance of the 1911 just worked better.

You should EASILY be able to get an STI trogan or ranger to do that. It may take a few hundred break in rounds to get there though. but that is just a good reason to shoot a new gun more
