Thanked: 235Moving house
After about four years of living with the in-laws my wife and I are finally getting our own house. It has taken us all this time to save enough money and convince my wife that we need to get our own place (my father in-law threatening to demolish the house will do that).
So we have bought a small terrace house close to my work. Soon the shave den will be a clean, well lit bathroom instead of a (word I can't say)roach and rat infested kitchen. Soon the music accompanying the shave will be a selection of Beethoven and Mozart instead of the sounds of in-laws screaming at each other and my father in-law's singing (which sounds like a dying cat trying to score one last time).
The workshop will still be at my desk, but that will be in a separate room than where we sleep. It will be my man cave, but my wife will have full access.
Right now we are in the middle of picking out furniture, kitchen design and a few other finishing things. Soon all the screaming in-laws will be behind us and replaced with the sounds of happiness and contentment.

Having just bought a place in January I can safely say there's nuthin like your own bricks and mortar!
I wish you many years of happiness there and many BBS shaves in your new shave den!

Thanked: 993Congrats on the new place!
In laws and parents in general are great.....when you can leave when you want to! Anything more than that pushes my boundaries of sanity.
Here's to your own place, man cave, and your music.

Congrats on the new place. I don't live with my in-laws and I'm stoked to be moving by the end of the month.

Congratulations Nathan! About 6 months after my wife and I married, we had to move in with my folks for a few months while our new home was completed. Although I love my family, it definitely is stress on a marriage living with in-laws.
Enjoy your new-found freedom.

Congratulations and good luck with the house. My mother-in-law lives in California, so I don't have the traditional in-law problems. However, my in-laws from my ex-wife? A whole different story!! I guess it's pretty true that you should make your decision about a wife by how her mother is.

Congratulations on your new home, may it bring much peace and happiness. I suppose the reduced stress from the lack of yelling should bring you half way there

Congrats on the house. What are you going to do with all that alone time?
