Thread: Tennessee info

I have a very tentative line on a job in Nashville, I'll be starting to interview for soon (I just finished up two screening interviews and passed with flying colors). The job sounds right up my alley, although it obviously pays less than I get in the bay area

If I end up relocating to nashville what can I expect? Anyone give me any opinions who might know the area? I looked a bit at real estate prices and I used to live in TN a long time ago (I was in the 4th grade so my memories aren't too detailed about it). I am not putting the cart before the horse here, I just don't want to start interviewing seriously with these folks unless I'm personally prepared to relocate should things go well. Don't want to waste anyone's time.

Opinions? Climate? Culture? Cost of living? General demeanor of the people? We'd probably want to buy a little bit of acreage and wouldn't live in Nashville proper. We're really looking to slow down our pace of life. We're almost hippies already, at least we try to live a fairly slow pace as much as we can out here and we're really interested in slowing down and smelling the roses.

Real hot in the summer, very hummid. Great people very friendly in the right areas, great music fun town. The city of nashville the touristy areas at least are very clean. You can get great land near the city without actually having to be in it. Memphis is a whole other story though lol!

and of course the music is excellent!

I live in alabama all my life but when I have been to or through TN I thought it was a beautiful place. Cost of living should be much less than CA. Being a southern state and also just depending on where you are people can be friendly. I think they get snow there also. I am in Birmingham Al and we can sometimes get it so I think TN has more of a chance to get it depending on where you are. Like JL said it will be hot and humid at times. If you want a slower pace in life I think you couldn't go wrong living in TN. I wish I knew alot more specific stuff about TN but never spent much time there but I think you would like it if you want some land and to slow things down.

Cost of living is much less than the west coast, and the lifestyle is a bit different, too.

It does get hot in the summer, and cool in the winter, but it is a pleasant climate overall. Nashville is right on the CumberlaNd River, and there are several large lakes nearby.

A pleasant place to live, with very friendly people, lots of good food, and a good nightlife downtown. It's not LA, but it is a nice laid back city.

ya know one will look down upon you if your rims arent polished and purchased separately from the car your driving.....

As a former Tennessee resident, I can say that Nashville is a very nice area. If you're going to buy a house, you can get much more house (and land) for what you'd pay in San Jose. Also, there is no State income tax in Tennessee, so that's worth almost 10% right there. Gasoline is cheaper, food is cheaper, insurance is cheaper. If you go outside of town, you can be in the country in minutes. If you like hunting and fishing and the outdoors, it's a great place to live. It's a pretty *young* town with Vanderbilt University and the country music scene, and it's large enough to have lots of stuff to do. The weather is fairly mild in the winter and it usually doesn't get below freezing very often. Summers are hot and humid but that's pretty standard for the south. I suggest you go visit there if you're serious about moving there.

Check with Sam at SMF or B&B. He's a member here, but sold out his straight razor cache (which is how I came to own SRP #89!). He lives in the Memphis area and should be able to offer some good info.

Slowing down and smelling the roses is great ,just as long there aint too much fertalizer around them lol
seriously ,best of luck, I got out of the city about ten yrs ago with the family, it is not an easy thing to do, I would never go back
