During one of the child-birth classes my ex-wife and I attended, the instructor asked the men in the class how we were feeling about the impending births, and if we were nervous about them. I made the mistake of declaring that I had delivered hundreds of calves and, since the process was basically the same, that I was not particularly nervous because of that experience.
Turns out a group of pregnant women can get really offended and really mad really fast.

Tell me about it... when my wife was about 8.5 months pregnant with our first she asked me, while she was wearing a grey sweat shirt and grey sweat pants, " honey, how do I look"? To which I replied, believing that honesty is the best policy, "like a manatee". I had a bruise on my arm for a week. We do get some good laughs out of it now, especially with younger couples who are pregnant.
Also, why is PMS called pms? Because mad cow disease was already taken...

I'm going to paraphrase Carol Gilligan.
Men and women are wired differently. Yes, hard wired differently. The software is quite capable of learning, but dominated by the hard wiring.
Until middle age, men require a clear difference between right and wrong with clear criteria to judge the extremes. Women require a relationship. A bad relationship is better than no relationship at all. Men's friends are not people they generally work with. Women's friends are generally those they work with.
As they proceed through normal human development, at about middle age, the men begin to realize that something is missing and start to engage in more relational thinking. Women become more sensitive to the concepts of right and wrong and often turn into Republicans. About the time a fellow yearns to correct his mistakes in his relationship, his woman figures out he really was wrong for twenty years, and the relationship drive has no hold on her. Out the door he goes along with all his silly razor toys. QED.
“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power.” R.G.Ingersoll
