My daughter the running champ, 2011
Like the past years, today was the annual inter-school 'kriebelcross'. A running contest where children from the same birthyear of different schools compete against each other.
My oldest, Kato, had to run 150 meters. After the starting signal, she took off like a rocket and by the first bend she was running second, overtaking the first runner. By then I lost sight of her. A couple of seconds later, I heard the announcer say that the winner was obvious, but there was still an exciting struggle for 2nd and 3d. 1st place went to my daughter, with a comfortable lead, just like last year.
My youngest was excited for her race, which was 75 meters. She got off to a slow start and then ran as fast as she could. For a moment it looked as if she was going to be among the first 5, but then she lost her wind. Still, she finished in the first half which is not bad.
After they had both run, they got ice cream, and spent a good while on the big air cushions. We hung around for a while but it was incredibly noisy so we went home to have a look at the prize bag. Most of the stuff is sponsored by the local business owners (coupons for free childrens pizza, a haircut, fries, etc)

I still have to get them. No worries, I'll add them as soon as I get them.
My wife told Kato yesterday that she might not keep winning 1st prize, next year or sometime after, because the girls on 2nd and 3d might get faster. She just shrugged and said matter-of-factly 'I could still go a lot faster' (fwiw I actually believe her). So my wife asked : 'well, why didn't you run faster then?'. Her answer: 'I was already first. There was noone left to beat'

Haha yes. It would be correct to say that she is addicted to winning. Things like 'everybody is a winner' or 'participating is more important than winning' are really not to her liking. In her opinion, everybody may be a winner, as long as she is the first one
She wants to be the first / winner in everything. Even things as mundane as exiting the car and getting to the door.
Btw I got the pics on my laptop. I'll post them later today.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.
