    This pretty much sums it up for me:

    I always try to follow those rules on the rare occasions I am sporting a hat

    i always remove the hat indoors.. unless it's an overly public building.. like train station or something.. also.. i think it's safe to keep your hat on in elevators.

    I wear a Flatcap a fair bit, and I pretty much follow most of the rules that Birnando has linked to. The hat comes off inside in most circumstances.
