Default Don't pull no punches, tell me what you really think.

Since we haven't had a real heated discussion here in a while I'd thought I'd start one.

So with the Presidential election in site I want to know what you think are the important qualities that would make you vote for one person or another. I don't want mention made of any particular individuals or parties, rather what makes a good President in your mind or what qualities the candidate needs to have.

Someone who doesn't believe in Big Government controlling everything, is honest, and God fearing. I know this is almost an oxymoron with a politician, but they would get my vote. It would take a real scumbag for me to not vote for them to get this "person" out of office.

How about an honest person? If you change your mind don't lie about it but explain why you did.

I haven't thought of the Presidential election in the way Nelson poses the question since I was a kid. The main reason is that Oklahoma doesn't count write-in votes and makes it difficult for folks other than the major party candidate to get on the ballot. So for me I just make a comparison between two tickets, which is not nearly as difficult as deciding who actually has that package of qualities which would make a good President

The comparisons I make are based on how I think the candidates will act in different general situations should they be elected. Since politicians can't be trusted to keep their word, this makes my work difficult, and oftentimes I can't make a good comparison for a particular potential issue because I have no clue how the person would actually respond in office. So I guess you could say I consider reliability a factor for me just so I have a foundation on which to weigh and compare which candidate would serve that office best

With the recent rulings on campaign finance laws you need to pick the corporations that you like best and ask them who to vote for.

On a slightly less passive aggressive note...

I am curious about this part of your post. If the candidate is honest and has a decent moral compass, does it matter if he or she is a follower of a specific religion?

I've heard republicans dismiss Mitt Romney, simply because he was a mormon (or so I was told).
does this really matter that much in US elections?

If a candidate was honest and was of moral value, they would be my second choice. If they were a true, key word, Christian they would be of honest and of moral value. This young country was based on Christianity and since we are on opinions, the further this country gets away from God, the further it is going down the tubes.

We can really get it going by combining religion and politics in one thread....
