First of all, anyone who runs ought to be disqualified by reason of insanity. They've gotta be nuts to want the job. OTOH, for a comparison I'd take an FDR clone.

In my fictional world, some of the main characteristics I'd look for is someone who; votes in accordance with the Constitution, wants to restore our civil liberties, and has an understanding of technology and how it should progress to benefit citizens.

I am curious about this part of your post. If the candidate is honest and has a decent moral compass, does it matter if he or she is a follower of a specific religion?
I've heard republicans dismiss Mitt Romney, simply because he was a mormon (or so I was told).
