This is most interesting thread with so beautiful pictures.
Well i live at the SW coast of Finland. In a small village in a small island near the city of Turku. It is the oldest city here with at least 1000 years of age (probably much older).

Here's few poor pictures i took this morning while coming from work.

    Riverside:

Castle of Turku from AD 1200 or so:

This is not from the city but from my home village. Took it behind our back yard:

I guess we kind of take this level of 'visible' history for granted a little in Europe, I'd certainly miss it if it wasn't there though

Here's the most recent addition to my (current) city - anyone like to take a guess where? ;-)

I know it's a little cheeky to post more than one, but here's the view from my backyard, taken with a Gevaert Gevabox box camera on Fuji Astia 100 slide film:

I grew up in the little town of Otis. 35 square miles.1,200 year round residents. A lake, a few large ponds, snowmobile trails that I used as MTB trails in the summer. I miss the hilltowns.
I try and make it up on the winter to ski and in the summer to sit at the family homestead on the lake. My great grandfather built both houses we have on the lake. He was one of the first private owners after the Collins Company turned their three ponds in to a lake.
This summer we took the kids to the zoo at forest park on what turned out to be one of the hottest days up there this summer.
My two year old son tried to climb over the fence at every monkey cage.
