There are several outdoor ranges near Los Angeles. The best I know is the ISI/Steel CHallenge range. I'm not sure if it's still open to the public, but you should try calling Mike Dalton at the following link. I learned to shoot from Mike at this facility and they hold IDPA matches here too. There are several more along this road including the Piru Rifle Range. The steel Challenge range is one of the best anywhere, and there are several areas with barracades, etc. Draw from holster is obviously allowed here.

Thanked: 1You ever make it to the Detroit, MI area try Peters Indoor Range in Roseville. We shoot pins every Thursday night. Open range every other night. Generally there is an IPSC match the 3rd and 4th Sundays of the month at various outdoor "members only" ranges.
You get here and want to shoot, but don't have your pistols...I've got spares and ammo.

If you're ever in Toronto, I have an old power supply that would make a great target. Served me well for years in my smoke/dust filled room but it began to die today just as I got a replacement for the replacement that died as soon as I plugged it in lol. However do it before the next garbage day

I'm moving soon to a very remote part of the country (not an airport in sight for hours) but I suggest you get into USPSA. Anytime I travel I look for a match nearby. They usually occur on Weekends. This is the sport the "big boys" shoot in. :-)
