    "Plastic" as in Kevlar?

May your surgery go well, and your recovery quickly.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you. I've had two surgeries in the last year - partial nephrectomy to remove a cancerous kidney tumor and bladder surgery - knocking me out for a month and 2-weeks, respectively. I know what a drag it is and you have really been through the wringer. Praying for a speedy resolution to all this for you so you can get back to life as normal asap.

I've had quite a few surgeries the past few years...this will be #11 in 4 years. I had perforated diverticulitis that ended up with me losing about 1/4 of my colon. I had a colostomy for about a year, and one of the attempts to reverse the colostomy left me with an ileostomy for another 9 months. Shortly after the ileostomy was reversed, I developed an incisional hernia. That was repaired once, but has recurred now. According to my doctors, the hernia is now "rather large, with several feet of small intestine protruding". I also have a second, smaller hernia at the site of another incision.

It sounds like I'll be out of work for about 2 months, with physical therapy starting about a month after surgery.
Sounds like what you had was Ulcerative Colitis. Bad stuff either way. Good luck to you at overcoming this.

Best of luck and Godspeed for a quick recovery.

Gentlemen, thank you all for the well wishes. I'm sure I will check in tomorrow night or Friday since I will be allowed to use my cell phone while in the hospital.

After roughly 5 hours in surgery, my abdominal wall has been fully reconstructed. When I spoke with my doctor this morning, he told me he was very happy with how the operation went. He said he was able to do it exactly as he had planned. And I'm in surprisingly little pain.

He did tell me that he was very surprised I wasn't having more symptoms. He said a length of my small intestine was actually knotted. If that had obstructed my bowel, I would have needed emergency surgery, and he said it would have been impossible to repair the hernia properly in an emergency situation.

Sorry you needed the surgery at all, but it sounds like you had it done before things got terribly worse. I'm glad to hear the procedure went well and hope your recovery is speedy. Best wishes!
