    Default Upcoming major surgery

Thursday I'll be going in for abdominal wall reconstructive surgery.

I've had quite a few surgeries the past few years...this will be #11 in 4 years. I had perforated diverticulitis that ended up with me losing about 1/4 of my colon. I had a colostomy for about a year, and one of the attempts to reverse the colostomy left me with an ileostomy for another 9 months. Shortly after the ileostomy was reversed, I developed an incisional hernia. That was repaired once, but has recurred now. According to my doctors, the hernia is now "rather large, with several feet of small intestine protruding". I also have a second, smaller hernia at the site of another incision.

It sounds like I'll be out of work for about 2 months, with physical therapy starting about a month after surgery.

Well, if the law of averages holds true, you're about due for a successful and complication-free operation. Good luck, and keep us posted.

Best of luck and I'll say a prayer or more for you as well.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I wish! From what the doctor told me I'll have abs of plastic afterwards.
