Default Profesional sports, why do people get so excited?

I can appreciate the acomplishments of a person/team. If they do good I can cheer for them. I don't personally care what side wins. Above the high school level I don't know anyone personally and in my opinion they don't represent me in any way. My life doesn't change if team X wins over team Y in any sport.

I see fights in the stands, riots in the streets if one team wins or loses. ????? Am I going to wear a certain perfume because a certain individual endorses it? If Joe X cheats on his wife it is no different than the guy 3 blocks over that does the same thing.

I see different guys on this forum that do great things with razors. I can appreciate them all. They are different. One can be agueabley better than the other. I am not going to get into a fist fight with you over it. I hold them all in high regards and hope to get to their level some day.

Why do sports excite people in so many ways?

I remember when the Columbian team lost the world cup, or whatever it was, and the goalie who allowed the other team to score was murdered when the team got to the airport in Columbia. Never could figure that out. In the UK, and elsewhere, the soccer fans had some serious riots over win/lose situations. When it comes to sports I rarely even know who is playing since Ted Williams retired.

I love watching Pro Football (American) just for the enjoyment of a great game. I know as a red blooded American male I should have a "favorite", but I just like the game. Same way with auto racing. I love watching rugby for the same reason, and now that I play, I love it even more.

Also, what's with all of this "we" crap? Like when someone says comments like "we're going to the World Series" or "We need to get a better opener." I always ask them if they play professional baseball.......

Now, my son's varsity football and my girls little league softball I enjoy immensely. Also, since I help coach softball, I get to say "we" proudly! . Anyone else notice coaching girls is a lot harder than boys? Dang feelings......

    And gratuitous cute kid pictures........

In my experience girls are easier than boys to teach. They are more team players and don't think that they know it all.

P.S. I agree with your "WE" comments.

Default Profesional sports, why do people get so excited?

    Tim,
People have probably written books on this same question.
As far as the violence associated with sports(At All Levels), well I could type for hours on why people take to violence, but I type slow and I've learned that nobody really gives a damn about my opinion, other than my 14 year old son. I can't understand why, , there was a time when I thought, that I was the center of the universe. I'll be damned if somebody didn't lie to me.

I get excited at hockey,( I can't even skate) the only sport I follow. For 2 1/2 hours it takes me away from the bills, the house, life's ever present problems and put me in a state of mind to dream, pretend and enjoy the rush, that competition among men at their highest level of skill, provides. I wear the jerseys of my favorite players. They bring pleasure to my now mundane life. Go Panthers !!!

Yep, you hit the nail on the head there. Girls usually follow all the steps to learning a skill (any skill) and boys tend to skip steps and substitute other ideas. Now, my daughters like mechanic-ing on stuff and my son hates it. He says "it takes too long." The girls like details and the boy just wants the end product. Haha.

Working on the bikes. Wish I still had that Honda! Surprisingly enough, my son does like the slow, meditative aspects of archery. Btw, that's a 50 yard group on the 30 yard pin on a 150fps 28 year old bow. proud dad!

Im somewhat in the same frame of mind Jimmy is. When Major league Baseball and then Football went on strike, I lost interest, its all about the money, when it should be all about the game. Former KC Chiefs QB Bill Kenny was in on a strike for more money, after his mediocre career he became a politician and stood against Unions. He can make the bucks due to a strike, but the average Joe is supposed to know his place.

    Bruno is right.

You should have raised my girls, the only time they worked as a team is when it benefitted them to do so. Usually at my expense and in coordination with their mother.
