Thanked: 22You bet! not in NYC though, I think anyway. I'm originally from Long Island and they're a little bit of sticklers about the "type" of permit they issue. But where I live, in upstate NY, it's a rural county, and permits are issued by the individual counties and their magistrates. So, it's really up to the discretion of the particular issuer of the permit with respect to the permit issued, i.e., for hunting, target or full carry or whatever.

Thanked: 22I'll tell you what, I'm not saying I know first hand, but I've been told, the one thing you don't want to come across is a mama bear in the woods with a cub or two. This one time by my grandfather's cabin near Deposit, NY, I saw what looked to be like two small black sheep cross the road and into the grass. My cousin and I were driving on a mountain rode connecting Deposit and N. Sanford. He says "dude, stop, let's try and grab those baby sheep." So, I stop, we get out and start following those baby sheep and I begin processing it, and I say to him, "I think those little guys were bear cubs." He says "damn, I think you're right." Then we immediately got out of there. But I always think of that time. I mean, we were a bunch of fools. It was the middle of summer. Neither of us were armed. We could've been mauled.

Thanked: 22Tell me about it. I went to law school with the daughter of the judge that granted my permit. What a horses hiney he was. At a social event, I introduced myself, explaing to him that I came before him for my permit. He says to me "did I approve it?" I said "sure." And he says to me that he doesn't even approve permits for retired cops. I'm just standing there in shock. I thought, what an idiot!

Thanked: 983Well if that was me in your position deerhunter, the only thing I would have fired is a big pile of poop right out the back a ma pants. The closest I've come to one of your bears was about 50 metres and that was close enough. That was at Yellowstone, but it sure as hell didn't look like Yogi.
