ok boys this is fresh from my classroom teachings from a few yrs back, The ides of march was origingaly a festitval held to honor the god mars it usually involved a military parade but in 44 bce (before common era) julious ceasar was stabbed 23 times (theres a bit of a debate as to the amont but none the less it was enough to kill him)by marcus brutus and gaius longinus and a large grop of 60 other conspirators that were fed up with his abuse of power.

Another little known fact: Caesar was banging Brutus's mom.

Also, because the Romans used a lunar calendar, their 15th of March is our 8th of March, so we've technically already gone through the Ides.
Bonus also, the Romans considered the Ides to be Dies Atri, or unlucky days. You're not supposed to light fires or make any sacrifices, either at the temple or your private altar. It's also a really bad time to begin traveling or start a new project. Don't invoke Janus (careful about going through doors!) or Jupiter.
Caesar, I think, would certainly agree that the Ides are not so great actually.
