I also like Ummagumma - it is a serious experiment on contemporary electroacoustic music. Think "Several species..." and "The Grand Vizir's Garden Party". It is serious late 60's tape composition. Animals is one of the great albums. The Final Cut is a master piece in production. But the lack of Rick Wright's keyboard is noteable.
Don't forget Piper at the Gates of Dawn. Often overlooked but incredibly stange, dark, innocent and beautiful. Even though Sid Barret's tenure with Pink Floyd was short, he remained the soul of the band for many years.

The Wall is not my favourite album by PF either, but the live performance has me listening to it again with a somewhat different perspective, and I think I'll revisit the movie as well.

Previous to this concert I've found that Meddle has had a bit of a renaissance with me, definitely one of their more overlooked albums and a pre-DSOTM masterpiece. Echoes is the centerpiece, but A Pillow of Winds, Fearless and San Tropez stand as classics in their own right.

The Piper at the Gates of Dawn is, indeed, a great album. But it still is "pop" by the time's London underground standard. The experimentation is somehow naïve and directed to a mostly psychedelic scene. However, A Saucerful of Secrets - the piece - is more of an example to what I mean. It was "composed". It wasn't some sort of improvised transe like Interstellar Overdrive. It has sections that are well defined, consequent and composed. This sort of thing stayed on in their way of composing and experimenting with new structures, techniques and instruments. Then, Ummagumma, perhaps reflecting the demise of Syd Barrett, is the pinacle of studio composition. But the experiment had no real consequence, except for the learning of new ways of composing. Then, Atom Heart Mother, in 1970 was something else. The contribution of Ron Geesin was more than just an arrangement and he is due a lot of credit on that one. Sadly, the sound quality is lacking... I wish they had re-recorded it, perhaps with a new, fatter orchestral arrangement.

Meddle is brilliant. That's it. Echoes is amazing and the dawn of greater things to come. It was the preface to DSOTM.

I could ramble on and on and on and on about Pink Floyd...

I could too, so don't feel bad. I've always loved Atom Heart Mother and Meddle. Fearless in specific always spoke to me and I love Echoes and San Tropez, hell even Seamus.

I recognized the cow in your avatar immediately by the way.

I have always really liked Obscured By Clouds a lot too.
