Remember "No Turn On Red" ?
I was making a legal right turn on red the other day and thought about when , in the state of Florida, that was always a moving violation. When they first dipped their foot into the water to allow it, it was only in certain areas. IIRC there would be a sign saying."Right Turn On Red After Stop." Then it went to no sign when it was allowed unless there was a sign that said, "No Turn On Red" if it wasn't.
I was also thinking about how it was driving cross country on state roads before the interstate expressways were completed. You'd be doing 65 or 70 on the freeway and then hit a little town and have to go 25 through town. Sometimes you might go for miles on a state road , one lane each way. A lot of head on collisions back in those days from people falling asleep at the wheel or misjudging speed/distance of oncoming traffic when trying to pass slower cars. No seatbelts back then either.

I remember when our family drove from Rhode Island to Florida back in 1965 and we were in a 1955 Buick Super and I fell asleep on that shelf under the back window. How much of a fine would that be today!!!!!

How many times have you entered the intersection to make a left turn and cant until the light is Well red because the cars keep on coming. Happens to me every day. Whatever happpened to not entering the intersection unless you can clear it with out the light turning? Or is this just something that happens in Toronto.

Thanked: 884Ain't just Toronto.
Happens to me all the time here in Ft Worth. 4 out of 5 of them will have a cell phone stuck to the side of their head.
I started through an intersection today, I had the green light, but I look both ways anyway. Good thing because some clown blew the light coming from my left side. I just stopped and waited for him to muddle on by. He was not holding a cell phone to his ear.
Makes ya wonder.

Driving a white ford E250 van @ 35 mph I got T-boned (I had the right of way) by a gal who pulled out from a stop sign (accelerating) and was talking on a cell phone. At 4 O'clock in the afternoon, on a sunny day, said she didn't see me.

I remember all of these things, in fact a got a couple of tickets in GA for not completly stopping before turing right on red just about the time that the law was changing.
I also remember standing up in the front seat with my cousins in my uncle's pick up truck!! We would have made a couple of nice meat missles in a head on huh? It really wasn't uncommon for kids to get a bump on the head from a quick stop and hitting the metal dash back in those days.
