Whats your opinion on automatic weapons?

Well, all I can say to that is I hope that day never comes (again) for the US. Civil wars have a way of becoming messy, and I am not confident the "us" and "them" boundaries would be as clear cut now as they may have been 300 years ago.

And in terms of the QLD weapons blackmarket, let's just say that Queensland houses many of Australia's "salt of the earth" types. We also have a booming mobile meth lab industry, not to mention prostitution, gambling, alcohol-related street crime, and unreported domestic violence. I think it has to do with our lovely climate.

Folks have been around far longer than firearms and little guys have always found a way to equal the playingfield on the battlefield and off. Heck, look at David and Goliath. You do believe that don't you.

The postscript there is in the hands of a highly trained fighter.

The fact is if you encounter a knifefighter and you have a firearm holstered and you are within 20 feet or so and he charges you either you turn and run or you are dead. That has been studied for years. It's physically impossible to clear your weapon in time unless your attacker is disabled and can't run or you have some radical custom holster and are highly trained in it's use.

There is a famous LAPD training video which is standard fare for LEO training to convince guys how deadly a knife is in the right hands. They send these guys in to a warehouse and are told there is a bad guy in there armed with a knife. They have their sidearms. In every case the bad guy disarms and kills the officer even when these guys go in 2 or 3 times. What they didn't tell the officers is the bad guy is like the number 2 rated knifefighter in the world and is the guy who trains actors in the movies (I think he recently died). he was armed with a butterfly knife and in the video even though the officers have their guns out and on him and he is prone on the floor he moves so fast you almost can't see him move.

True. Even an attacker with fatal GSWs may have enough adrenaline, drugs, momentum, etc. to quickly close the distance and kill you with a knife.

I know that video, still have a copy of it. It's called "Surviving Edged Weapons", is an astoundingly good production for the time, and makes for excellent training material. There are some excerpts up on YouTube. The "bad guy" in the part you mention is played by Guro Dan Inosanto, who is now 76, still alive, well and teaching.

I'd be willing to bet that even Steven Segall (who is/was probably one of the baddest mofo's in Akido on this side of the Pacific) would hesitate to take on a determined attacker that was armed.

Except for a short period in my life when I was in the employ of Uncle Sam, MY firearms have not been used offensively nor killed anyone. The use of them has allowed me the opportunity to be here today.

Well, Wullie, I thank you for your service, and doing what you had to do. If a sailor is on duty and lets one go, plane, missile. whatever, He never really knows. But yet, He does. I am also happy that you have not had to use deadly force in civilian life.
