So the Divers father died when he was a kid as a result of a brain tumor. You think it's acceptable for somebody to be telling him that he let his father down? An olympic athlete who will be devistated because he failed to get a medal, get's that "tweeted" at him ... The diver is 18, I think the guy being arrested is firm but fair, it is showing kids that this sort of behavior isn't acceptable.Quote:

I suppose you could call it a form of propaganda, but I have always respected that the military and/or authorities would protect me if anything went wrong.
The military's job is to protect the shores and stay the HELL out of policing activities. Our current regime thinks otherwise. Our founding fathers were smart enough to recognize the danger of standing armies. Until a few short months ago we had a law known as "posse commitatus" which precluded the use of the our military against our citizens. THe passage of the NDAA pretty gutted that law. It will be interesting to see how that plays out in the future.
From what I've read of your views, if you do decide to get a firearm, I would recommend one of diminutive size and with no sharp corners. My thinking on this is that somebody will shove it where the sun doesn't shine before you would deploy it. I do hope that you NEVER have to be in a situation that would require the use of a firearm. I hope I NEVER have to use one again for self defense.Quote:
I actually discussed with my parents whether I should get a gun when I get my residency "just in case" to get their view, and she pointed out the events in my life where I have been attacked and been ok. I think this shows I do see a use for them whether or not I agree with it.
I will however defend OUR right to protect ourselves. That right was framed in our constitution by intelligent men who had lived under the yoke of British tyranny. It was their foresight and fervent hope that NO MAN would ever be subjected to what they had been subjected to and that the people of this country would live and prosper as citizens rather than subjects.

Thanks Wullie, I look forward to actually living in the USA. Regardless of anything said in the discussion, I like the country, I may be wary, but I haven't yet had a single issue. I wonder why they decided to change that law? Seems odd.Quote:

Seriously you should visit the UK and play a game called "count the cameras". How you get the right number is, you count what you see, double it, add 10% and you have a few less than the number of cameras watching you lol

I strongly disagree. We have a system that allows non violent communication. Our views are heard, we WANT the cameras, we WANT to be watched. We support our monarchy, we have the Human Rights Act. We have serious levels of control over our government, which works for us. In the USA private companies own your (your being anybody really) ass. Just take a look at the restrictiveness of cellular phones, you know how much a phone costs us here in the UK ... we pay around £20-30 per month ... and we get the smart phone for free that happaned because we said "screw you guys, we won't pay" that and the government helped too. We choose our healthcare provider, because we can. Your government doesn't restrict you but your private companies do that for them. Honestly you have us all wrong.
