    Default Twitter......What am I missing

I've been trying to figure out Twitter for the last several months since it seems to be popular. I really don't get it since there are no celebrities, politicians, athletes that I want to here from 24hrx7 days a week.
Is there another use for this software or am I missing it and out of date? I have a Facebook page that I use to keep in touch with family and friends.

Can someone explain the point of Twitter?

Don't worry you have company, I can't figure it out either. People have so many ways to communicate today yet 99.9% of what they communicate is garbage, or so it seems. Do I really need to know or what to know every little detail of somebodies life? I almost feel like it is called twitter because twits are on it.

In my opinion it is pointless, but current day youth seems to think that everyone else in the world wants to know what they are doing every minute of the day..at least that is my take of it anyway.

Don't worry, once the the real world kicks them down a few times they may eventually realize the world doesn't gives a rat's butt about you as an individual. I wonder where they got the idea they were so important in the first place?

To me it looks the culture of making every kid feel special, you know a pat on the back for every little thing they have accomplished or semi accomplished, seems to give young people the false sense of huge selfimportance. Of course there is also the "everybody is doing it, it must be awesome" kind of mentality too.

I've found it useful a couple of times to get instant updates on breaking events. Not with subscriptions, but just by searching here for keywords, like "tornado".

There is a karate studio next to the tattoo shop I work at. So I stand out in front when I want to smoke my pipe and watch these young, maybe 8 to 10 year old kids, go through the moves and do the exercises they are taught. On one occasion they were going, one after another, in a line, and had to do a move that involved catching something. As each person in line took their turn the others would applaud, being led in that by the instructor.

What got me was when one of the kids dropped the ball, so to speak, and the instructor began applauding .... and the other kids followed suit, as if he had succeeded instead of failed. It is some of that "worse than Dr Spock" mentality. I asked the instructor about it later that day when he was leaving to go home. No losers ..... don't want to make the kid feel bad. So they are being instilled with a mentality that doesn't recognize there are winners and losers, and consequences in life.

I feel so old when things like this come up. I remember when a sense of accomplishment came from... well accomplishing something. I'm not sure any favors will come out of this theory of giving them self confidence without having any reason for it.
Losing... like failing, are important parts of life. If you never lose or fail you never feel a need to move on from where you are or to get any better. If you "win" no matter what you actually do, why bother trying to get it right?
