I shoot sporting clays and informal stuff with friends and a portable thrower when I get a chance but it's been a couple years since I've done either. Never tried formal skeet or trap.
I use a Benelli Sport 28", nice all around shotgun.
The last time I got together with my brothers in law we shot sporting clays two days in a row and had a blast. I was a little sore after day one but not ready to quit....... ended up black and blue after the 2nd day. I feel your pain but it's a good hurt in a way when you get to crush that many birds.

Bill, now that would be a sport I'd like to get into. I haven't gone target shooting since 2002 (my cousin took me to the range with his service 7,62TT) and so far I've only fired one round from a rifle (to eliminate a pest that was becoming a safety hazard). I'm a big fan of marksmanship, when it's performed with hunting weapons.
As for that shoulder, make sure you pop an advil and ice it down tonight. As of tomorrow afternoon you should alternate hot and cold compresses on it to encourage blood circulation for a speedy recovery.

Bill we seem to have a bit in common you and I ,I started shooting when I was 10 ,I`m a tad short of 49 and I`m still shooting, although not as often ,only once a month now and on that weekend I get it all in ,shotgun long range rifle western action pistol Pistol,. In my younger days I was a pretty fair shot, bugger me you would want with the amount of shooting I used to do. Yes and like you I don't care too much for killing things. I have to admit though that I shot a couple of old bulls for a local dairy farmer a while back ,only because I was asked I tend not to volunteer for jobs like that, and just quietly I felt mighty sorry for the poor old bastards
I still have about 10 firearms some cheep single shots that I taught the kids to shoot with and proper safety procedures couple of 32/20 s 30/30 308 I have a custom built 375H&H Mag built on a Sako action custom stock hand filed octagonal barrel and quite a bit of high relief engraving with hunting scenes ,deer etc. Unlike you my missus hates guns,so they are tolerated, but quite frankly I think she would shoot me if she knew how much the 375 cost .
Any way I`m pleased to know you can still powder a few and more importantly ,have some fun. I still like shooting but my eyes let me down now. when I was younger my motto was if I could see it I could hit it ,now my motto is if I can see it its really blurry and I might hit it ,or get pretty close, any way enough of my ramblings
Have a great time next weekend and get a sore shoulder for me
Kind regards PeterLast edited by bg42; 11-27-2006 at 09:37 AM.

Hi Bill
Let me start out by saying that I delayed cleaning out a pool filter for months, because I refused to kill the black widow that was living in a nearby drain. Lol! My wife laughs when I trap spiders and take them outside. I shot a bird on a wire when I was a kid and swore I would never do it again.
I love trap shooting, but have not done it for a while. We have a nice facility nearby called Oak Tree Gun Club that has been around forever. Is the wobble you are referring to the same as Continental? That's a lot of fun.

Thanked: 1I went once a long time ago and really liked it. I think I could get into target shooting but who has the time anymore. Sounds like a fantastic day!

LOL my wife gets so mad that I refuse to kill anything, even bugs. She is deathly afraid of anything that looks like a bug, and instead of killing them I trap them in a glass and take them outside, she just doesnt get it. My only exception is that my cats can kill a bug because they will eat it. I have a very strong no eat, no kill policy in my life. The only thing I ever remember killing that I wasnt going to eat was a frog who had gotten attacked by a cat and was dying, so I killed it humanely to end its suffering.
Ok sorry for the (I love those new smilies)
Anyway I do not trap shoot, but I think it would be fun to give it a try. Right now all my shooting is handguns, but I plan to add either an AK47 or AR15 and a shotgun next year to the mix, so maybe I'll give it a try then

Bill, sounds like fun! I'm waiting for the class at the local club to get started, and I plan on taking it up.
Right now, I'm planning on using my Browning Auto-5. But, since that's not really a clays gun, I might look for something else.

I shoot sporting clays fairly regularly, but not much trap. Shooting wobble is a ton of fun. The first time I tried it I was pretty confident when I stepped up to the line and significantly humbled when I was done with the round. At the time my sporting scores were typically in the range of mid 80's to low 90's.....let's just say that I broke over half the wobble targets, but not that many over half. .
I have a pair of Perazzi Sporters that I use for pretty much everything.
Get out there and toughen up that shoulder and have a great time.
