The ones I got when the ban ended were 12 rd USP40C mags, I never had a problem with them.
I hadn't heard anything about Cal's and bad followers but would be surprised if HK knowingly let a bad batch get or stay out on the market. There are a number of people who don't like Cal's due to a position he took on high cap Mk 23 mags during the ban, I wonder if that might have something to do with rumors getting floated around.

So far I heard that they did not get any licenses or import export agreements revoked, but that they did discontinue their entire line of weapons that use the internal mechinisms that the mp5's use. They are going to go with somethign more along the lines of the UMP in the future. I am not sure if that could be part of the problem?
I also didnt hear anything about them being bought out by another company, but I'll kee you posted.

Yes I hear what your saying about good leather. Most of our non-uniform guys carry what leather they are issued which isn't bad stuff but its not up to the level of MS or some of the other guys. But they use a standard mens dress belt from a department store. I have tried to explain the a proper belt will make all the difference in the world, but I guess they are too cheap to spend a few bucks? Guess you can lead a horse to water but...............

The funny part is that they can probably write it off as a business expense

Penny smart, pound foolish. I just spend the apropriate amount of money for the job. If I get equipment that I know I'll be using on a daily basis, then I go for the quality stuff and I wouldn't mind spending $100 on a gun belt if I worked in security or LE, just like I wouldn't skimp on steel-toed boots if I worked construction or safety goggles if I worked in a lab.

Ok here is the scoop on the MP5, HK definitely is still selling them, but they are pushing the 416's pretty hard. A guy I spoke with tried to get his dept some new MP5's and had one hell of a time getting the rep to go alont with it as he was preaching about the 416. Regardless HK can definitely still import and sell anything short of Title III weapons. FYI, no one I talked to seemed to know anything about HK being purchases, so I am doubting that it actually happened.

How I spent Saturday afternoon
Thanks for the info. He (dealer, not company rep) did say HK seems to sit on orders for several months though. They blame the ATF and the ATF says they take a few weeks to push paperwork through on the ClassIII stuff and anything after that is HK's delay? Who knows?
I assume the team wants to stay with a few sub guns though, but the 416 looks interesting. I have to say that the MP5 is a blast to shoot. The area dealer came by to drop off a UMP in .45acp. He didn't indicate getting the full auto was a problem, just may take time depending on the above. The one he left is semi and full
Lets just say that by the end of the day we were knee deep in brass. The UMP has got to be the ugliest firearm I have seen in person. It certainly lacks any hint of the craftsmanship of the MP-5's and the 33's we have. Trigger is rough, and it just feels cheap. Not to mention that mag almost looks cartoonish, its freaking huge
Having said that, I will admit it did grow on me by the end of the day. Very controllable for a .45 with its light overall weight. Now if only it came standard with bikini clad magazine loader
