Thanked: 8841848 half dollar that my great great Grand father carried through the War of Northern Aggression. He was never "broke", nor broken.
He was captured twice by the Federal troops. Released the first time because he was but 15 years old and had a broken arm. The Federals spanked him with a saddle cinch and told him to go home. They hung his compatriots for horse stealing. Second time he was captured they kept him for a year until the war was "over". It was never "over" for Grandpa Sam. He wouldn't be reconstructed and he did not give a damn.
This pretty well describes Grandpa Sam.

Way Cool!
And I thought that my 19 year old son having my Dad's pre-64 Winchester Model 70 30-06 was great!
I have my grandfather's service revolver; it's a 32-20 Smith and Wesson; while there are several months and years on the barrel the newest date is; Sept.14.09. He was a Washington State Game Protector (Game Warden). He told me that their side arm was of their choice.
My son lives with me and we proudly have a Springfield Model 1878 45-70 Breech-loader mounted on the wall with other family antiques and pictures that my father gave to him.

I would love to hold that baby once. I love original flinters. All of mine are repos.
The oldest thing I own is not my Mappin Brothers razor. It is the recovered 8 reale (piece of eight) from the wreck of the Atocha in 1622 off Key West. I wear it around my neck and call it my life savings.
Shaving with facial hair is like a golfcourse. It's a challenge of rough and fairways. You are the skilled greenskeeper of your face?

Thanked: 884I've got a corner of my yard full of ammonites and pieces of the same. Including one that took two of us to lift into the truck.
I don't think any my of extended family swam with any of them or tried to eat them or not get eaten by them "back in the days of the Devonian era"Member Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club, participant SE Asia War Games 1972-1973. The oath I swore has no statute of limitation.

I don't have anything super old, but I do have a fairly large piece of the Berlin Wall with a 1 foot piece of re-bar sticking out of it!

I suppose that the oldest thing I have is a small gold medal (with a Saint Anthony) that my Great Grandfather, who was a military doctor, carried with him through World War 1. His sisters gave him the medal when he embarked and he carried it with him at all times. It went to war and back. I often look at this medal: it is a reminder that we all go through nasty stuff in our lives; but this medal has went through stuff I will likely never know.
PS — Yes, Portugal was a beligerent in WW1. We declared war on the Germans in 1916 and joined the Allies in the bloody trenches in northern France under the command of the British. The Portuguese participation wasn't very significative in such an industrial war, but it left some scars in our collective memory.

I've read that the Portuguese, being good at Jogo do Pau, stick fighting, were very adapt at fighting with bayonets. Even being used to train other soldiers. I'm Portuguese, and hope to hitch a ride with my cousin next year and visit the Azores, all my Grandparents came from the Islands.
