    Default Neighbor's Pit Bulls

My new neighbor has two pit bulls. They like to dig under the fence. My wife is afraid of pit bulls and they acts very aggressively when them come into our yard.

The city refuses to come out unless we capture the dogs. We have talked to the neighbors several times, they simply refuse to believe that their dogs act in any was aggressively.

They acted aggressively toward me until I pointed a gun at them and then they went back under the fence.

The neighbor won't even bother to refill the holes the dogs have dug. We have done so numerous times.

We have fought them to a standstill by adding crushed Habanieros to the dirt. We have also banged their noses a few times when they stuck them under the fence.

I'm sure we have had at lease one cat if not two killed by them. I don't want to shoot them.

Sound like you're in a pretty rough spot. I would never suggest killing the dogs, but you should let your neighbors know that if they come into your yard, and if you feel like you or your wife is in danger that you will shoot them. If that alone doesn't scare the owners for the safety of their dogs then they probably don't care about them that much and you'll have to do what you have to do.

Animal control won't take care of it?

Be prepared to shoot them at all times,Most are very nice Dogs. But with 2200 PSI jaw presser, they are worse than a loaded gun around children.
They can and do kill people.

I agree. I have two pits and they are nothing but big teddy bears. But the more aggressive ones can be really dangerous.

How about a 12 gauge loaded with rock salt ? Even a 410. Might discourage further adventures under the fence. Did you report the cats being killed to the police ..... ASPCA ? Some agency ought to be responsible to do something under the circumstances.

Dont shoot them if you dont have to, too much potential for legal problems. Get yourself a cheapo electric cattle fence DE-60, .15 Joule Energizer | Enforcer Series, 110 Volt Electric Fence Plug In

Any large dog, especially one bred for protection service is capable of serious bodily harm under certain circumstances. Do what you must to prevent harm, but I respectfully suggest that you carefully consider all ramifications and alternatives. There may be some action that you could take to keep the dogs off your property, even if it is unfair that you bear these costs. The video camera is your friend, it could demonstrate to your neighbor that his dogs are not as cuddily as he seems to think, and could provide the evidence needed by authorities to take action if he won't. Is there a leash law in your community? Videos could also prove indispensible in any unfortunate future legal action.

I do not know the legal attitude in TX, but consider the possible very high costs of having to defend against potential firearms charges brought by the government or other charges possibly brought against you by your neighbor. The good guy does not always win. Even if the good guy wins the legal action, he may be bankrupted by legal costs. Reputations can be ruined by criminal charges, the public remembers the criminal charge but forgets the innocent verdict.

Some people love their dogs more than children. I have seen instances where neighbors in dispute have ended up hating each other for decades and have expended tens of thousands of dollars on civil law suits. There may be some action that you could take that is cheaper than fighting and expedient, if not just. In my state, professional landlords sometimes unjustly pay bad tenants to leave their property because it is cheaper and faster than possibly spending months in court for an eviction of a tenant with children. They do this because they know that an indegent tenant cannot leave their property without first having the financial means to go somewhere else. It may be better for your bottom line and peace of mind to do something effective to keep the dogs out of your property, if feasible, than to feud with your neighbor.

I just read that part and all that ran through my brain was what I was hearing about the Macafee murder case,, if I heard the news right he shot his neighbor over the neighbor killing his dog...

Not sure how big an area they are digging under.
Since it's under I can't imagine the electric fence idea would help much.

If you have access to some metal rods maybe you could hammer them in along where they're digging and have a below ground fence? Either that or lay a concrete "mowing" strip so that you don't have to deal with the grass that grows along the fence line
