long time coming
made my last mortgage payment today. total anticlimax. two people peered at a computer screen for what felt like an eternity, then one looked up and said, you owe $1.48 more. i took two lollipops out of the basket for my troubles on the way out. it will be a couple of paycheck cycles before i feel the monetary relief on the monthly budget, but wow....done. refinanced twice along the way to get rid of a 13% variable rate mortgage, and then a 9.5% and it only saved me two months on a 30 year note. i have a line of credit with another bank with a small balance, daughter needed a course at school paid for, but i may not pay that off right away, at 22 bucks a month it isn't going to kill me. but that does make them a lien holder so technically we don't own the joint outright yet. who cares?

Awesome, congratulations man.
It must be such a feeling finally getting that out of the way.
Most of us live thru most of adulthood trying to slay that beast, and once done, a celebration certainly sounds the next thing to enjoy!Bjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

Thanked: 1587Yeah, congratulations! Nice to actually meet someone who has done it. I always thought people who "paid off the mortgage" were like the those "Renewals" in the Logan's Run movie

Thanked: 13246Yeah it is rather Anticlimatic, I was kinda thinking I would have liked to have one of those Deed Burning Party's like they did in the old days...
Took me months to even get a "Paid Off" letter from the Mortgage Company and if ya want a "Copy" of the actual Deed ya gotta go to the County Clerk
But yes it is a great day none the less
Congratulations

I paid my 15 year mortgage off 5 years ago with an inheritance. I hated departing with the cash but figured why pay the bank 7% per year when putting my money into savings was only going to net me less than a 1% return. Best decision I have ever made. I have placed the former monthly payments in savings and stocks and now have 50% more than what I paid to satisfy the mortgage.
Congratulations. You will be amazed at the good feeling as you see funds accumulate in your bank account. Use and invest the funds wisely.
