You know Jimmy I HAVE. I swore I wouldn't say anything on this thread, but when we got to whatever page, I couldn't help myself...

I think I would have been rather likely to have stated something like from my cold dead fingers at the outset! Heck, I even got upset at all my Canadian friends who posted that it was a gun issue on facebook!

By the way, Canada has the same problems - maybe on a per capita thing, they have more. But the numbers of dead aren't as high because of what I believe to be the lack of semi's all over the place, and the 30 rd clips and all that.

Anyway, then I started to worry about the whole legality's of it all... and even came to think that you know what, I'll give into the notion of giving up my semi's and live with a round gun and a bolt action if and only if, everyone else gets the same right, and everyone gives up their semi's. Not just some.

But though I live here, alas I am not born here, and that makes it easy for me to feel as such. Though I somehow don't think it will ever happen - so... it becomes nothing more than interesting banter.

David I for one have thought your banter has been well thought out and points well made we don't fully agree but at least you make for a good discussion

I'll admit that I haven't read this whole thread, only bits and pieces, so I can't really speak to what has already been said. My opinion is that everyone on both sides of the debate should step back and take a deep breath. The problem with the gun laws as we have them now is that they are almost all knee jerk reaction laws to senseless tragedies. I believe that there should be gun laws and that they will change soon. I just hope that this time they are thought out and made realistic rather than thrown out there to appease the anti/pro gun populace.

Precisely why I'm not as keen on politically charged threads as I once was. Those who agree with my positions always will and those who don't never will. It really does amount to unnecessary aggravation. That having been said, my thoughts and prayers go to all the victims' families. I know there are lots of folks hurting in ways most people can't even imagine because of what this maniac did. As has been said though, I think there are bigger problems here than gun control. Connecticut has some of the strictest gun control laws in the country. The guns were legal and belonged to the maniac's own mother. I'm not a gun nut, don't even own one but do know that "gun control" laws only disarm law abiding citizens. Criminals being criminals will procure and use guns as they see fit with little regard for the law (that's what criminals do you know.) Once we start messing with the Bill of Rights I think it's a huge reason for concern. Back when the Constitution was written, speech and press were the only forms of communication so naturally they were both protected, every other form of communication that has emerged since, the government has regulated and controlled.

Maybe 20 years ago I was a firm follower of Border Patrol legend Bill Jordan. The author of "No Second Place Winner" (as in a gunfight) . He was an advocate of revolvers for reliability. I packed a S&W M-29 44 magnum with a 4" bbl and, of course, a 6 round cylinder. One day I opened up the paper to see a fellow had walked up to an automobile in broad daylight , at a red light in a major intersection, Dixie Highway, and had emptied a Browning 9mm (15 rounds and one in the pipe) into the driver.

He was a prosecution witness in a pending drug dealer trial. The realization that 6 rounds in a wheelgun might leave me at a disadvantage , and the improvement in the functional reliability of semi automatic pistols, finally brought me into that camp. My revolvers are now range guns and my carry piece is a semi.

If I thought "they" could really get all of them I'd give mine up. They can't so I won't.

Well in my world though Mr. Jordan may be yesterdays "man," I still think he's a god lol! A true gentleman I think from all of my readings of him.

Anyway - that's why as Gil says, "when the other folks give up theirs, I'll give up mine." Until that happens, I wouldn't give up my semi's either. Though I don't think that 99% of the time I would ever be outgunned with a revolver. I really think the first two are the ones that will make it or break it for a guy... YMMV.

Let me rephrase that - unless going up against a dude with a knife ten feet away from me - I am always outgunned with a revolver lol!! Give me a rocket launcher lol!!

If the guy has a knife and he is within 10 feet he owns you unless you already have him dead to rights in your sights and even then he still might get to ya...... Yep those are the stats

Dude - people got to use/practice with their weapons!

Short of ninja dude, what kind of tool would I be to not get a couple of hits in? Seriously. I know how hard it is to hit with a handgun but... I practice while moving on balloons in the wind! There is no way a dude can be harder than a wafting balloon in Kansas winds as I walk from left to right... can there?!

*EDIT* oh and just in case - were I to have a handgun and a dude came at me with a knife I would run. Though these days I am not sure I could out run anyone anymore lol. Hmmm, I wonder if that's why the stand your ground laws came to be lol!!
