True. Now one could also argue that disciplined would include not only the courage to stand like a peon in a shooting stand on the fair, but also the ability to handle a gun safely and not accidentally shoot your commanding officer or the guy next to you in the back. And that would include not walking around with the gun loaded and the hammer cocked.
In todays world, that would be equivalent to putting the safety on when carrying, and keping guns locked in the safe if you're not using them, intead of leaving them lying around the house.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Thanked: 13245This is something I absolutely believe in..
Having had guns stolen from me in the past by the very **%^##@#^^&* that built me the gun cabinet, I have had a gun safe since, as luck would have it all 4 pistols were recovered and no crimes were attached to them..
I also had a guy who was my Boss when I was much younger who had a pistol stolen that was used in a multiple murder where one of the Victims was the mother of a Gal I dated.. So I really do believe in having guns locked away..
If they are with you then you have to accept the responsibility of ownership,,
True story, my wife is actually POST certified yet has never asked to obtain a CCW until this weekend, she decided that it might be time to start to carry on a daily basis...
Ps: Bruno lack of disipline has brought us wonderful saying over here like "Going off half Cocked" "Shooting your Wad" "Lock Stock and Barrel" "Stick to Your Guns"Last edited by gssixgun; 12-18-2012 at 07:03 PM.

Thanked: 101I too believe in locking guns up. PERIOD! I enjoy them, have been shooting for about 30 years and have gotten many involved in the shooting sports. I have also fired all manner of firearms (belt fed, sub gun, suppressed, SBS etc.). Be responsible. I keep my firearms locked safely away and that's the way they stay. My children are instructed to NEVER touch ANY gun EVER!!!! Of course with proper supervision and permission they can see and handle anything I have. I applaud the old timer in FLA in the internet cafe. We need more of this. Conversely I also believe that if you purchase a firearm and carry PLEASE practice practice practice!!!!!!!!!!!!! How many "non-targets" did NYPD shoot a few months back? It was like 7. When the news broke headlines read "Mass shooting in NYC- 9 Shot!!!" Well The original shooter shot his intended target and was therefore shot by NYPD, who also shot 7 bystanders "accidentally". If you carry then please train. I don't know how many people have come to me and told me all about their carry gun to follow the description with "I've never shot it". I have also had people ask me "what will make me a better shot? Night sights? Crimson Trace? Trigger job? Stippling?" etc. ad nauseum...The only thing I tell them is to shoot and shoot and shoot. Shoot safely and train like your life depends on it! Because it does!! I tell folks to shoot their chosen handgun as much and often as they can. You owe it to those around you to be safe, accurate and effective if the need arises to "break leather" and engage (God forbid).

Thanked: 369Just to add to that - dry fire practice. Just about every expert and championship shooter recommends dry fire practice, because it works. (That's SAFE dry fire practice, BTW)

Thanked: 101Indeed. I have "fired" thousands...no millions of "rounds" with dry firing. It is amazing what can be accomplished with dry firing. Can't beat the price either- FREE! It will help you gain trigger control, maintain sight picture when trigger "breaks", practice mag changes/speed loader dump etc. Excellent training aid.

Thanked: 13245Wait now, let me get this straight, if you are going to carry you have to Practice Practice Practice ????? Hmmmmm sounds like if yer doing that much shooting it might behoove yer wallet to buy rounds in bulk...
Hey wait a second, is that why they offer deals on 500 rnd 1000 rnd and 5000 rnd Lots of ammo Ya Think !!!!!
Would that mean that the talking head morooooons from the media have it wrong and everyone that buys "Lots" of ammo ain't going to commit mass murder ???? Wow imagine my surpriseLast edited by gssixgun; 12-18-2012 at 07:08 PM.

Thanked: 13245As you might have noted I removed a few posts that added nothing to this Convo.. If you 2 would like to argue more, I suggest the PM system, if you don't like the deletions I made, I suggest the PM system again...
Bruno gave a warning, I removed posts.. the next step are 3 day bans.. You might want to read the actual rules for the Conversation Forum

Thanked: 13245BTW I was looking for numbers since the Clackamas shooting for "Number of times guns are used to stop crime", and it ranges from a low side which I found on "Anti-gun sites" of 100,000 times per year, to a high estimate of 2.5 million times per year found on "Pro-gun sites",,, these are US only estimates
The media only reluctantly reports of these when the one weilding the weapon is at least 70 years old so it is taken as a "Cute" or "Quaint" story...

Great. First we get a mislabeled "armed Israeli teacher" photo and now a fabricated quote. George Washington did not say that -- please read the Address here:

Thanked: 480A note on Gramps shooting the assailants even as they ran out the door...
Yes, that was not legally the correct thing to do. He could be brought up on charges for it. idiots he shot could even sue him if they were hit as they fled.
No, I dont care. As far as I;m concerned they deserved not compassion or restraint, and society would be better served to be rid of them. If they had rounded everybody up, put them in the back room, and executed everybody, would that have been preferable? I'll take an old man with a gun getting swept up in the adrenaline of the moment over the criminal intent any day of the week.
But thats just me.
