Default star trek vs. star wars

ok so every time i go back to Ohio for leave this always comes up, who would win in a fight, star trek (tng) or star wars? i say star trek. weapons are far more advanced, better characters and the show is just far better. it has actually come to a drunken brawl at least once with my little brother. just wondering everyone else view.

Um, the Death Star could destroy an entire planet. So as long as they do not find that fatal flaw....Anyway, the force trumps all technology.

In star wars they use lasers as the primary weapons on the ships, lasers are not even strong enough to penetrate navigation Shields on the Enterprise,

What are we talking about in terms of confrontation? Space battle or man to man fighting? In terms of space battle, trek would come out ahead. In terms of man to man fighting, the jedi would kick trek ass.

And this is just looking at battle scales. Wars are very much about numbers; logistics and transport. In those terms, the starwars empire would kick federation ass every day of the week.

How is it that we are just now having this discussion? Personally, I love both, but give the edge to Star Wars, the original theatrical releases '77, '80, & '83 before Lucus mucked them up with new special effects and don't even get me started on the abomination that is the "prequel". I still want my money back because of Jar Jar. But on the other hand, the new Star Trek from 2009 is pretty awesome.
