Kinda makes the UK sound like a house of ill repute...what gives? There are some really, really not so nice "places" to be here in the US & I'm sure all around the world. WHy single out the UK?

If I recall correctly, it was Creutzfelt Jacob disease aka mad cow disease.
It was very widespread in the UK, and anyone who lived there for a while during a defined window is banned from donating blood / organs.

Mind you, you can still donate your body to science.

Medical students still need corpses to disect, and several other places could use your remains. I read an article about corpse farms, where forensic scientists do studies on the speed of decomp in a wide variety of circumstances. No matter what your lifestyle was, they could always use your body for such purposes.

    Hey Shooter,

The CJD (Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease) outbreak did cross to humans, and as a prion based disease it is unknown how it spread. A few people did die horrible deaths as a result of the crossover. Since we don't really know anything about how Prions infect humans, it's best to prevent exposure by any ethical means. HEHE house of ill repute made me smile (I haven't heard that phrase for a long while.)

God ... I remember studying (and I use the word loosely) prions in university, it was the least scientific portion of my degree study. Lots of theories and if's and but's, which annoys me a little. I like black and white data :P
